Starting a Business

I am considering starting my own nutrition (GNC style minus ridiculous prices) store that I would like to put in Fairfax area. I am currently in the Marine Corps and my term is ending fairly soon. I got a fair amount saved up from expense sacrifice and deployment pay. I have worked at a GNC while back ago and always thought about franchising one but knowing the margine and prices I know if I start my own store I can run the prices lower and not have to do the franchise payout. Whats a good place to start my research? Basically at this point I have done research on my suppliers and know who I will be dealing with as far as merchandise provider. What are my first steps in opening up a business in Northern Virginia, if anyone familiar with the laws and places and things that need to be done I would greatly appreciate your input. Thank You

First of all, thank you for your service! I wasnt a Marine, but an Army Groundpounder. (2 Nam tours). The Small Business Administration offers
programs that are coordinated with the VA and I suggest you seek their
advice/assistance. As far as nutrition goes, MRE's aint bad if you just
use a little hot sauce. Good luck in your endeavor. Please dont take us
back to C-rations. (they're terrible!)

Find a good business lawyer and an accountant. But most of the incorporation forms can be found on the internet.

Regarding MRE's:

That dinky little thing of tabasco they put in each one is waay too small. Its only good for the spaghetti and meatballs one. For all the others, i prefer some Daves Total Insanity Hot Sauce.
