Are there any reputable local companies who will replace the glass on an Ipod Touch, or is the best option to mail it to a national repair service?

Take it to the Apple store and if it's still under warranty, they'll replace it. If not, it's like $140

Thanks - my impression was that the Apple store would not fix (under warranty) glass that has been cracked from dropping, and that there were other places who WOULD do the repair for under $100. I see something online about WiGoClinic in Falls Church but know nothing about them (or other repair shops).

A friend's daughter dropped her's about 2 weeks ago, and he took it to the Apple store and they just gave him a new one.

I unlock, jailbreak and repair all iPhone's, iPod's, and iPad's. What kind of iPod is it? Is it the 4th gen with a front and rear camera?

I hope these aren't the same guys at the Tyson's kiosk who sold my daughter a rubber "case" for the iPod Touch, at $30 - same thing that I can get at Five Below for $5.

My daughter dropped her new Ipod Touch and cracked the screen. She brought it back to the Apple store in Fair Lakes and they gave her a new IPOD Touch--no charge. Apple store guy recommended purchasing an OtterBox protector case, which she did.

Totally endorse the otterbox. My kids each have one and the cases work great.

They replaced the screen on my iPhone 4. Total cost was $60. It took less than half an hour.

It's actually in Merrifield on Rt. 29. It's almost right across the street from the BMW of Fairfax dealership. Their prices are good. I've purchased replacement LCD screens for my LG phones for $39.00 - so, they sell parts, too. Or, you can have them perform the labor.

In these days when the phone companies scoff at you for not buying their $7.00 per month insurance and then having to pay a $50 deductible before you get a new phone, places like this are great to deal with. Especially, when the darn LG Rumor Touch phones are $289 from Sprint or T-Mobile.

A few weeks back, my daughter busted the corner of her iPod touch 4th gen. I did some digging and they sell a kit for about $34.00 on eBay which includes the pick and some other accessories to remove the old, damaged front as well as a replacement front panel. I may go this route to fix hers. I'm the person who posted about Wigo Clinic before. I don't work as close to that site anymore, so it's a bit of hassle to get over and get the parts from them, so I may go the eBay route.

We had one that had been dropped and the screen cracked. We took it to the Apple store at Fair Oaks, and they gave us a brand new one! Just be sure to back up your existing data first.

That's a bit tight to get the parts and labor for under $80. Wigo Clinic wants $129, which I feel is quite reasonable.

If anyone does go the DIY route, ensure you buy the "inclusive" screen / glass for your iPod Touch. On eBay, there's a company that just sells the front glass component, which will do you no good because the other components (digitizer, etc.) are glued to the glass and it's virtually impossible to separate the two.

I did pick up a complete screen kit for $29.99 off of eBay which included the digitizer, glass, etc. It was $29.99 including shipping. However, it didn't include any of the tools that are useful at prying the old screen off and removing the small necessary screws to get access to swap out the ribbon cables. If you have an assortment of micro screwdrivers and some thin tools to lift the screen, you might be OK in regards to tools.

Finally, the process itself is documented pretty well on YouTube. However, there is one process - I forget the one I watched that was especially useful. But, I caught the useful one after it was too late as the guy pointed out a hidden ribbon cable which wasn't covered in the other videos, so I tore 1/2 of the ribbon cable for the volume controller as it connects to the mainboard. Finally, if you FUBAR the mainboard, they are $199 for the 32GB model as I didn't see any prices for the 64 GB model.

In the end, we ended up purchasing our daughter a "very close to new" iPod touch off of Craigslist on Friday for $250.00. It was much easier to do as my time was tight at the moment to finish getting the additional parts to fix the older iPod Touch 4g. Though, in a few weeks, time should free up and I'll fix it and then sell it to recover our cost of parts.

For me, $129 would have been a cheap piece of mind to let someone else do the work. My time is precious and to waste an hour or two on a repair without a guarantee at this point in time is kind of hard for me to do,

just letting you know the digiexpress is a rip off, they dont return ipods and they charge you more, its not $25, its about $130 just to get screen fixed

Why not contact Apple, or head to one of their stores for the right answer? Do you still have your Target receipt?

I'll probably try contacting apple with the phone # they have on their site. I do still have the target receipt and it costs like $70 or $80 to buy a plan then have it fixed. Are you still in the warranty period? Does the wording on the warranty specifically state that they won't replace cracked screens? Extended service plans are usually just a scam by the retailer to make easy money. Plus, they all lie to you when they sell you the plans to make it appear as if you're fully covered. However, some of those plans will have you jump through hoops to get your device fixed. I usually never buy those plans and have saved thousands of dollars over the years. I can "self insure" my purchases at this point of my life with the money I've saved from those plans.

Yes, I'm still under the warranty.I attempted to read it(it's really confusing) and it said apple only covers the iPod if it's a defect in material or workmanship. It also said any damage caused by an accident wasn't covered, though a lot people hav been saying apple replaced it for free their screens for free after they dropped them. I appreciate all the help.

The problem is inside the Touch. The plug where the the headphones are connected goes bad just as you have described. Time to buy a new one!

This morning my iPod touch (4th gen) fell out of my jacket pocket and onto my concrete floor, and now a majority of the screen has huge cracks in it. I've only had it for about 3 months (I know, I'm terrible) but my mom didn't buy a warranty on it. I don't think there's an Apple store close to where I live, but there is Best Buy, hhgregg, Target, GameStop, etc. I was wondering if any of these places or other similar stores offer a screen replacement/repair, because I haven't seemed to be able to find any info on this on any of their websites.

My kids dropped my ipod, I had one month left of warranty. I took it in and they replaced it for free, even though it is not covered by warranty. It depends on the rep.

the electronic components are glued to the back of the screen. the way the kiosk/3rd party companies do it is that they literally blow hot air onto the components to melt the glue and then they put back the components onto a new screen.
now you can only imagine what heat may do to the components! if they give a warranty on the repairs, then go for it, nothing to lose.
but definitely check out apple store, esp if the product is still under warranty. sometimes they will just change it no questions asked. even if you have to fork out some money, they will give you a new/refurbed ipod, which is much better deal long run than trying to save few bucks onthe kiosk

Hi,i recently bought iPod touch 4th generation at a game stop.I took it to the McDonald's to get a WiFi signal and it dropped off my lap on the floor.It cracked a little in the top left corner and a bunch in the bottom left corner.I don't want to pay a bunch of money to have it repaired so that's why i was trying to have it done free like at the apple store. oh yeah also it i bought it at the game stop, do i still have a warranty to get it done free at the apple store

Geez, what's with you people and all the Apple pieces of shit? I've dropped my Samsung Optimus smartphone in parking lots, concrete garage floor, hardwood floors at least a dozen times and it doesn't even have a sratch on it.
