Anybody checked out the new Chicago Dawg restaurant up next to the Expo Center in Chantilly just down from Willard's BBQ?
It doesn't really stand out and isn't the best of locations as far as food business is concerned, but I hope people will find it and keep it around if it is any good.
Haven't been to this place, but there are places like this cropping up all over the place in the District, food trucks, etc. Including Windy City Red Hots in Leesburg. Overall, they struggle to meet the standards of the originals. For that matter, peoples' taste buds here are not accustomed to these concoctions, and there are not enough transplants from the original area to keep them going.
Good luck to them, but if the dogs are not 100% authentic, they will not last. Even if they are, I give them about a 50/50 chance of lasting more than a year.
I like Windy City Redhots but I'm not a Chicago native so what do I know. However, I'd like to try this Chicago Dawg place just to see how it compares.
I am from Chicago and think that is great that both of the restaurants are here and open. The only other place that I can find to get a hot dog is Costco. And really, its not a great hot dog and nothing like a true Chicago dog!
Now just to be able to get a real Italian beef sandwich!
How about a real hot ham cheese and bacon, or a real sub or a classic maine hotdog original casing with a thin bun. If you have been to the state of Maine, you know what i'm talking about..damn i miss that!!

$27 for a meal for 4? Thats $6.75 each. If that is pricey to you, I should hope you don't go out to eat very often.

I agree. But, to be fair, it is for hot dogs.
Besides, he is from the 22039. Prolly way upside down and underwater on the ole mortgage.

I went out to dinner 5 times last week and every day for lunch. Also, hardly underwater, I was one of the prudent ones who put down over 20% on a conventional mortgage. My neighbors, who knows...
Anyways, back to the matter at hand,.. Nearly $7.00 for a dog and drink is a bit pricey - but it was very good!
I'm not from Chicago but travel there regularly on business and have had a number of hotdogs in Chicago. I happened to be in Chantilly for a meetng recently and thought I'd try this place. I thought it was great! The hotdogs are like the good ones I've had in Chicago, and all the toppings are just like you'd get there. $6.75 for lunch is not all that much, it's hard to get lunch for less. I know I'll be going there whenever I have to go out that way.
The place isn't cutesy cutesy, but that's not why you'd go to a hotdog place anyway. The owners and people working there are extremely nice and couldn't be more sincere in wanting to ensure everything was good.
Just ate at the Dawg House. I will say it was all very good, and very well priced considering some of the comments. 2.95 for a chili dog is not a bad deal.
The dogs were as advertised and I will get my hot dawg fix there from now on.
Agreed. I went there this week for lunch. Great dogs. The service and the crew could not have been more appreciative of the business. Will go back soon... DOG with everything...Chicago style.
I also went there this weekend. The owner/guy working was extremely nice and gracious. I got 2 hot dogs and they were delicious. Steamed with a steamed bun and I thought the thick cut fries were pretty damn good too.
Nicely fills the void left by Frank&Stein closing in Fair Oaks Mall for a good hot dog around here. 5 guys doesn't count to me because they slice theirs in half to cook it.
Was actually walking by to another place on the strip mall before it was open and one of the owners walked out. I asked him about the place and we had a short chat, really nice guy. I went in a few weeks later after it had opened and the guy actually remembered me! Could not believe it. The food was great as well.

The owner's name was Rich and he passed away unexpectedly a few weeks ago. He was a good guy and always wanted to chat with the customers, always made sure that the customers liked their food.
Richard was a really nice man. He gave the kind of service that is unheard of today. He enjoyed people for sure. The family has said that they are going to sell the restaurant but it will continue to stay in business. I am sure Richard would be happy about that. I wish the best for his family.
Damn, that is too bad, he really was a nice guy. I don't have ocassion to be out there very often but I always went there for lunch when I could. Too bad the place is going to be sold. Doubt it will be as good under new ownership. Hope so though.
Went by there today at lunch. The decor leaved a bit to be desired. The vibe was kind of strange. There was what appeared to be a 'regular' chatting up the people working there. He was grilling (HA!) the young girl behind the counter because she had a problem hunting or something to that effect. I take that back, it wasn't 'strange' it was 'friendly', which I suppose is very uncommon in this area.
The fries were good, the hot dog, not so much. I liked the massive amount of onions/green peppers I got, but the actual hot dog was a bit over cooked. I'm willing to try it again, maybe it was an off day.
