LORTON, Va. --

One man died and three others were injured in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 1 in Lorton during Monday’s rush hour.

The wreck happened at 5:22 p.m. near Fairfax County Parkway and closed U.S. 1 until just before 10:30 p.m.

Police say the driver of a 1994 Honda was speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol when he changed lanes on northbound U.S. 1, lost control and hit a 2010 Ford Fusion, also traveling north.

The impact pushed the Fusion into the southbound lanes, where it hit a 2010 Mercedes traveling south.

The driver of the Fusion was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he died, said Fairfax County police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell.

The driver and passenger in the Mercedes – a man and his wife – suffered serious injuries but they did not appear to be life-threatening, Caldwell said.

The Honda driver and a child in the car with him were not hurt, but a passenger suffered minor injuries, Caldwell said.

The Honda driver was charged with drunken driving and “a host of other charges,” Caldwell said.

Police have not released the names of anyone involved in the wreck, but said they plan to later today.

Fusion vs Mercedes never good.

Good old RT 1, that road is full of fun loving folks. Gotta love the fact this guy was driving drunk with his kid in the car at 5:30pm. Trailer park trash at it's finest.

In a 94 Honda? More likely it's one of Mexico's fully-documented finest up here simply drinking the alcohol Americans won't drink... Who are we to blame him for seeking opportunities here to kill people that aren't available in his homeland?

I agree, we shouldn't be racist. Assuming it is a Mexican family because it's an old Honda is wrong, Asians also like to drive old Honda's.

I don't get it. How is it 90% of the time the drunk fuck lives and the one he hits, dies???? Doesn't that defy the odds? Is there some explanation for this always lopsided result???

Because an individual who is drunk typically does not know or anticipate the accident, therefor there body is completely relaxed and limp on impact. The victims typically see the accident just prior to impact, causing them to tense up and react, making the trauma worse.

If you are ever about to have an accident, the worse thing you can do is tense up and freak out. It's safer if you actually relax, try to go limp and exhale.

A 33-year-old man was charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter and other charges for a fatal traffic accident on Richmond Highway Monday night.

Besides manslaughter, authorities charged Carlos Sanchez-Ramos, of Springfield, with driving while intoxicated, driving on an alcohol-related revoked license, child endangerment and two counts of felony hit and run.

Authorities said Sanchez was driving a 1994 Honda Civic northbound on Richmond Highway when he lost control of his car and struck a Ford Fusion driven by 54-year-old Paul J. Krause.

The Ford was pushed into southbound traffic on Richmond Highway and struck a 2010 Mercedes-Benz head-on. The driver and passenger of the Mercedes, a 77-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman, were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Krause was killed in the crash.

Police said Sanchez-Ramos took a 3-year-old boy from his car and fled the accident scene on foot. The child wasn’t hurt.

A 31-year-old man also in Sanchez-Ramos’ car remained at the scene after the crash. He was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

If anyone remembers that case few yrs back that alot of people in the paki community were pissed about, that he got that deal jus bcuz his family had money.

The drunk driver lived at 8074 Grandview Court, Springfield, 22153. Did the owner of the townhouse, Moises H. Benitez allow illegals to live in his home?

The driver in jail, had been deported in 2004 and snuck back into the US.
I feel so badly for the 54 yr old man that died in this crash.

Tired of all the innocent victims and the illegal aliens

Feel bad for his three girls and wife, who is a LEGAL immigrant. He was a Lt. Col, Ret. He was a good man. This piece of shit Carlos took away those girls' daddy because he couldn't be bothered to go the legal (easy) route and follow the law. He was even given the benefit of the doubt before and he still had no respect for this country or its people.
