Back in the Day-Godfather's Pizza and Movie Theater in FFX Circle area?
Posted by: Retro Stylin ()

Does anyone remember when Godfather's and the movie theater left where Performance Bike store is? (If that's the same spot) Also, was there a Waffle House on Lee Hwy, what is now snobbily called Fairfax Blvd across from where the Boulevard Motel is? Thanks for any help trying to jog my cerebrum.

You are correct. The movie theatre was where the AT&T store is .
The waffle house was torn down and replaced by the Hampton Inn. It was directly across the street from the Burger Chef and was next to the Shakeys.

I remember Godfather's Pizza at Greenway Shopping Center in Greenbelt. I also remember Shakey's over by Capital Plaza. Shakey's was like th prerunner to Chuckee Cheez.

No video games but Shakey's had an all you can eat buffet though, something CC doesn't have.

Fairfax Theater was next to a High's and next to that was Dart Drug. There was a Geno's right across the street that had subs, chicken and pizza. It went belly up in the 70's I believe. Around the corner from the Theater was a National Bank of Fairfax and at some point the Dart company's auto parts store (something like Hi-Auto as I recall). There was no cut trough between Pickett and Blake Lane and Circle Towers was just a big jumble of woods with several trails that people took to walk to the townhouse developments of Stonehenge and Hampton Court.

Was it Shakey's or Godfathers that used to be in Tysons Corner? Not at the mall, but off to the side...

Shakey's had the best buffet called Bunch of Lunch. Great pizza, chicken and taters. This was the best inexpensive buffet ever I think. Always went there with the team after softball games. And most of them had a game room with 5 to 10 machines. They still have Shakeys out west with the nearest one to here south of Atlanta. Almost worth a field trip.

It was a Shakey's near Tysons Corner, not Godfathers behind/near old Herman's Sporting Goods and in the area of W. Bell & Co. catalog store off of that odd driveway/road... up from JR Stockyards restaurant place. Haven't been that way in 15 years. Probably looks completely different.

That Shakey's held out for a good while as, Tysons progress enveloped it into early 90s'-ish? Dart boards, a few pinballs and long banquet tables in the middle. Recall their tasty Mexican style pizza served with about 20 packets of taco sauce dumped on the tray... like the sauce packets that Taco Bell drops in your drive-thru sack these days. Shakey's used to be more prominent during late 70's into late 80's. There was also a Shakey's in Fairfax City around rt. 50 and rt. 29 intersection.

Shakey's used to advertise on radio and TV and actually had a catchy jingle. The music still rings in my head and the jingle lyrics started out as something like: "Shakey's is the pizza place, good times and...?" TV commercial had a ragtime-style band with a banjo player and all in straw hats. TV commercial was similar to Farrell's restaurant that was inside old Tysons mall and a mecca for local kids birthday parties.

Small world....I was in that shopping center and thinking about this a few days ago...

Godfathers was right next door to what is now Advance Auto, it is some kinda Hookah Kabob type joint.

The movie place was around back where Hudson Trail right next to the oft discussed Bubbas...

What was the Ginos is between the muffler place and Farrish, it is now some kinda Korean joint..the Dong A market I think.

GEEZ!! The memories of 80's Circle!

The Ground Round that used to serve free popcorn appetizers

The old Capt Bob (was it Bob? I think it was Bob) Datsun dealership with the spokeguy who dressed up like a sailorman on the TV commercials

way back when Home Depot was a Memco's before it turned into Hechingers! (anybody remember Harry and Harriet Homeowner? Coupons every Sunday in the Comics section - back when Sunday Comics meant something...........sigh)

back in the days when Pickett Rd HAD to go thru the Circle LoLz

Bob Tedd Datsun (YES, 2 D'S). The Chik Fil A is there now.

Shakey's next to Anita's and the car wash was great and the buffet was awesome. We'd go there between classes from Mason and pig out.

Hudson Trail used to be where Fast Eddies is and now occupies the space where the theater used to be. Great theater. Huge.

And Memco used to be where Home Depot is and after that was a Bradlee's before Hechinger. Used to be another Memco over at the intersection of Braddock and 236.

Howard Johnson's restaurant was where the Dunkin Donuts is and some ArthurTreacher's is still in business...

The Walmart in Burke Center, before it was a K Mart, was built as a Bradlees

@ Mad Max - they used to use real sugar back then, not that corn syrup crap they use now. Orange slurpees were MUCH better back then, too :(

WACKY PACKAGES!!!!!!! And dont forget the Weird Wheels stickers with that Big Daddy Roth type art!

Topps stickers were AWESOME!!

You could have a birthday party and you would order one giant Sunday for everyone at your table. This was back in late 70's.

It had a candy shop in the front and velvet ropes to lead you into the place.

Super cool!

Whoa, memory lane here. I went to that movie theater and Godfather's pizza on a school patrol "appreciation day". Used to go to the Farrell's at Springfield Mall all the time. We'd play Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" on the juke box over and over, how fucking annoying esp. b/c I am pretty sure we didn't tip the staff very well on our orders of french fries w/ a side of ranch. Remember all the candy jars up front by the counter where you paid? What a shame what that mall has become.

Time Out II used to have a little water pond where you could race RC Boats!!

Anyone else remember Mr Gatti's (or was it Gatty's or Gaddy's)? Pizza place at Saratoga and University Mall. Lots of soccer end of season parties held there. The front doors had giant G's as the door handles.

And yes, Springfield Mall was so much fun back in the day, I remember sneaking smokes on the outdoor J.C. Penny's stairs (over by the first parking garage that was built) because I was afraid that one of my Mom's friends would see me if I smoked inside the mall. Looking back, my Mom's friends were all shopping at Fair Oaks, no need to worry...

I remember that Shakeys in Tysons. Right near JRs Steakhouse and Dash's Designer. Dash's was a mens clothing chain. Like the mens warehouse of that time. I got my prom tux there too. They had the best commercials. Good jingle: "Dash's, Dash's, Dash's!"

Wow, those Farrell's uniforms look exactly the same.

I also suddenly remember that I hated going there because I thought sharing an ice cream bowl with 5 people was gross.

So now they have two locations in California and are looking to expand. Maybe they'll be back.

Yes, Springfield Mall was the place to hang out back in the late 70's/early 80's before it went downhill.
