Just an observation: zany drivers & out of state plates.

Seriously, virtually all of the lane-weavers (w/out signals) and excessive speeders* have had Maryland or tags from the Carolinas in my recent observations.

Hardly any gross speeders wear VA plates.

...wonder why.

*excessive, meaning rapidly faster than surrounding vehicles. (Yes, I can visually tell the speed of cars w/ in a few mph of actual ;) )

Pretty much any beat-up car on 66 going 20 over and spanning two lanes has a maryland plate and tinted windows. It's funny how they can make a 2006 Mazda look and sound 20 years old.

I attribute that to Maryland's lack of an annual vehicle safety inspection program like we have in Virgina. Next time you are on the Beltway in Maryland, take a look at the shoulders of the highway. There always seems to be many more broken down and/or abandoned or unattended vehicles there than you'll ever see in Virginia.

If the other vehicles are going 35, I am going 50, and the speed limit is 45, then does this make me an "excessive speeder"?

from my personal experience on 495/95, i have seen nothing clear that would point to a large majority of the drivers with poor/reckless driving being from a particular state. this of course is measured in ratio. i have a total of 60mi a weekday commute on the beltway so i have racked up a lot of experience in this matter.

i will tell you this, i rue the forthcoming of minivans and SUVs.

VA drivers suck just as bad as those from MD and DC.

You can't judge an entire state's drivers just by the few dumbfucks you see out there.

Problem is, it's not "just a few" dumbfucks. That Maryland drivers are the worst offenders on VA roads is becoming more apparent daily.

That said, oddly enough, on the rare occasions I have to drive into MD, I've noted some of the worst offenders in MD seem to be VA drivers.

I would say yes if in that situation you were in heavy traffic that wasnt moving more then 35.. but that'd just be stupid and reckless.. :)

if its a virtually empty road and everyones going 35.. then your fine

I've noticed shitty Maryland drivers in VA for a while now, past 10 years. Maybe just a coincidence...but just seems whenever I see a MD driver I can almost bet that they do something stupid. Then again, I was in MD looking for somewhere to eat on my way to NY and cut some people off cause I had no idea where I was at, so that may be it.

The two worst drivers Ive seen are BMW drivers and motorcyclists. Add to them being out of state drivers and its a triple threat.

Same MD driver on the beltway this afternoon - same section, same car, same driver.

Beige nissan altima (mid-90's, POS) weaving in-and-out for at least 4 miles...

I took my exit and wished him, good riddance...
