What a great use of tax-paid police time to go around and criminalize people that otherwise would not be committing any crime. Maybe if they spent less time doing shit like this, Reston wouldn't have as big of a real crime or gang problem.

WTF! Last night I was asked to buy beer at the 7-11 on Sunset Hills around 8pm by a kid in jeans and a hooded sweatshirt. I told him sorry, but I couldn't help him. Dodged that bullet! -§

Is your car ok? Are you sure this was a police cadet who approached you? Kids have been known to key cars that don't cooperate with them. You'd be wise to walk around your car to check.

I had my car keyed at the Reston Library, for no apparent reason other than it is a Mercedes. It's not even a new one! And I had no bummer stickers. I won't be using that library branch again.

You may have prevented another DUI accident where life is lost.

It's when a kid like stinkypoon, demonstrates his age and ignorance by saying F*ck you. Go live in North Korea... and walks the length of your BMW scratching his key along the side.

Again I laud the Fairfax police and safety officials. It's punks like stinkypoon that make your jobs more difficult. You wonder when they reach the age of maturity what will happen to these malcontents, jail/prison?

Thank you Mr. Wow Man for a more mature perspective.

Only liberals hang out in libraries. They feel knowledge is good. Libraries loan out books for free and they think it is for the greater good. SOCIALISTS! This is paid for by my taxes and I dont want to pay higher taxes so the government can tell me what or when to read.

Go to Barnes and Noble or Amazon, there you have a freedom of choice of which books you want to read. No one can tell you what to read, like they do in the socialist library. Leninist, Marxist libraries. , This is why I am against libraries.

And being one of those liberal elite, you absolutely deserved to have your car keyed by a Patriotic American who probably fought for our freedom in Iraq.

Why do you hate America and capitalism so much?

So libraries are a Marxist plot? I guess the Reagan Library was the result
of a conspiracy too then. I know of one though that fits the description,
and thats the Clinton Library. Ho Chi Minh and Jane Fonda funded that one.

See, liberals do not know what they are talking about. I would guess you are speaking of the Reagan and Clinton PRESIDENTIAL libraries which were built primarily to house the documents and other artifacts from their years in the White House, not to loan out books for free.

I will prove my point. My neighbor went to his local library to get the new Ann Coulter book. They said it was out and offered to put him on a waiting list and they would call or email when it was available. He went home and ordered it Amazon, paid around $20 and $12.95 express shipping and got it the next day!
It is now displayed on his bookshelf! See how the free market works.

I do not want to have to wait for the new Hammity, Coulter, or Limbaugh book. That is why I hate socialist libraries! Let the free market dictate what and when you read!

And if you have children who want to read - get the Hammity's children book. That is all they will ever need to know.

If you want libraries - move to Canada, you socialist.

To further prove my point -since liberals "just do not get it" - this is the mission statement from the American Library Association

“to provide leadership for the development, promotion, and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all.”

First of all, the ALA was founded in 1876 and is chartered in Massachusetts - you know home of Ted Kennedy!

Second, look at the last few words "ensure access to information for all"!!!!!
That is socialism. The ALA represents libraries and the ALA is a socialist organization!

Third the ALA says "for all". That includes illegal aliens! The ALA supports illegal aliens. They hate America and our way of life!

I think I will go to my local library and key some cars. Anyone want to join me?
All I ask is you wear your American Flag pin - not like barak Osama (bin Laden).

First we need to define the question. Is wrong to buy underage people alcohol? Yes, it is. Is it illegal? Yes it is.

It it entrapment for an undercover police cadet to ask a person to commit a crime with the intention of arresting the citizen should the citizen oblige? Yes it is.

Should the police entrap normally law abiding citizens (remember we are presumed innocent until proven guilty) by enticing them to commit a crime? No absolutely not.

The law is the law. Entrapment is just not acceptable in the eyes of the law.

n. in criminal law, the act of law enforcement officers or government agents inducing or encouraging a person to commit a crime when the potential criminal expresses a desire not to go ahead. The key to entrapment is whether the idea for the commission or encouragement of the criminal act originated with the police or government agents instead of with the "criminal." Entrapment, if proved, is a defense to a criminal prosecution. The accused often claims entrapment in so-called "stings" in which undercover agents buy or sell narcotics, prostitutes' services or arrange to purchase goods believed to be stolen. The factual question is: Would Johnny Begood have purchased the drugs if not pressed by the narc?

It seems pretty clear to me.... Did Gravis approach a bunch of teenage girls at the 7-11 and say "I can buy beer, lets PARTY!" or was Gravis just minding his own business and was approached by a cadet with an agenda?

It's when a self-righteous prick like Fairfax Citizen, probably a closet pedophile, enjoys his taxes funding operations that criminalize people that had no intention of committing any crimes until approached. I don't know what part of that you think is ethical or legal, but until your kids and the rest of MS13 are rounded up, I don't think the police should be engaging in entrapment operations. And no, I have never bought for minors, nor would I. It's a matter of ethics and the law. It's pretty fucked up.

In my first post, substitute "Health Care" for "libraries" and you get
an almost word for word "why we don't need national health care" rant from "Hammity".

That's a freekin great idea, but I bet they could still charge you with something. Or what if you just took the money and got back into your car and left?

If you get pulled over....tell the police officer you thought you were doing the kid a favor and since he "handed" you the cash. You can tell the kid that "I'd rather not purchase at this store, but I'll try the one across the street and be right back." By the time he figures out what's going on, you're out of sight.

Re: the car being keyed: No, didn't happen since (1) he asked me as I was leaving and (2) he was most likely a cadet given the date, time and location of when I at this 7-11.

As for libraries and free-market books: Why the hell would you pay for anything by Ann Coulter or Sean Hannity? No one in Fairfax county reads that crap and they certainly don't deserve any royalties for their blow-hard drivel. Libraries facilitate education. Everyone agrees that education is good and should be free. Get with the program and next time, stay on-topic. -§

Of course, if they had any regard for the law they'd be charging the kids doing the shoulder-tapping. Of course, that would dry out the pool of volunteers rather quickly, but in an honest world that actually regards the law and doesn't make shit up that's how it would happen.

Children, it's not entrapment. If you are stupid enough to buy or sell alcohol to minors, you deserve to be arrested. A number of your classmates died this year and in past years because someone gave them access to prohibited beverages. If you really think YOU are entrapped, hire a lawyer and take your case to the courts. I haven't seen any successful verdicts, have you? And stinkypoon, clean-up your language and act your age.

allow me to familiarize you with something called a definition.

Quote

en·trap·ment /ɛnˈtræpmənt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[en-trap-muhnt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun
1. the luring by a law-enforcement agent of a person into committing a crime.
2. an act or process of entrapping.
3. a state of being entrapped.

now, do see definition number one? if you cant comprehend you're in error, please throw yourself off a bridge as you do not deserve to live.

Ahhh, I see. The juvenile delinquents on Fairfax Underground have it right and all the lawyers, judges and law enforcement agencies have it wrong, huh?

It is NOT entrapment. They are not enticing, luring, coercing or otherwise forcing anyone to buy beer for them. To merely ask a question does not come anywhere near "entrapment." The person who is asked is ALWAYS free to say "no" and walk away, or better yet, to say "no" and walk away and call the police. They are NOT taking away your freedom of choice.

Are we lead to believe that you people would actually contribute to the delinquency of a minor by aiding an OBVIOUSLY underaged person in purchasing an age restricted item? After all, who would bother to ask this question if they WERE NOT underaged? Wouldn't they just walk in and buy what they were legally able to purchase themselves? THAT is what you are forgetting and THAT is precisely one of the reasons it is not "entrapment."

Also, the cadets used in these operations, like when they actually do enter stores and try to purchases alcoholic beverages while obviously underaged, are instructed to tell with the clerk or the person asked to purchase alcohol for them their true age when asked! There is no secrecy here.

These operations have been going on for several years. Do you guys think that you are so clever that no scumbag ever charged with this crime, or said scumbag's shyster lawyer, have ever, in the entire history of the Fourth Circuit, thought to use the old tried and true "entrapment" defense?

Do you really think these arrests would continue if the arrests are being ruled invalid in a court of law?

much like your beliefs, they have twisted the law into something it's not. for the record, im not a juvenile or a delinquent, ive just seen some fucked up shit happen that cops can get away with while the public turns a blind eye.

im sure the person asking wasnt planning on saying "im gonna need change too" therefore the prospect of some money is entailed. perhaps the entrapped would get a few bucks out of it for just picking up a case of beer in a place they were going into anyway.

Well I see the point Gravis is making.

A tough call because certainly if the officer or Cadet wasn't there the person would never of committed the crime. There is the reward of money for doing the crime and the person is certainly lured into the crime.

These seem like extremely weak cases that any good lawyer and judge would have to throw out.

All the person needs to say is "I felt pressured into doing it."

Why is "underage drinking" such a crime? So, if a 20yr old asks you to buy them a case of beer, and you are over 21, then you are a hardened criminal? On the Isle of Man, the drinking age is 5! Just saying...

Underage drinking is a crime because its against the law. If you feel so strongly
that 5 year olds should be able to drink, then you have the opportunity to start
contacting your elected officials and demand that they change the law. Good luck!
Other than that, why not move to the Ile of Man? Im sure that police officers
and councelors could elaborage much better than I could on the perils of under-
age drinking, but I have seen its results. I had a friend in high school who
started drinking whiskey at the age of 12. By the time he reached 24, he died
as a result. Sad. He was a smart guy and well liked by everyone who knew him when
he was sober. That is except his parents who condoned it. They should have been tried in court but unfortunately, they too slipped through the cracks.

I would suggest that you concentrate more on your studies and less on "entrapment." Please let us know your court date. I want to see how you use your superb programmer's logic to argue your case.

So in other words you just lost your leg to stand on?

Wow, a professional programmer! You're still a Zero, Gravis Zero. I will update my GMU contacts. Gravis, AKA TheMeeper, AKA Gravis Zero, AKA Fairfax Citizen. Oh, you forgot to provide your court date for buying alcohol for minors.

Although I think what the person buying the beer did was illegal I also believe it is a shady way to set them up. I agree that they would not have purchased the beer had they not been approached to do so in the first place. Kind of like an integrity test, do we really need to do this? Kind of smacks of a big brother thing where the government will test you to see what kind of person you are.

My thinking may be out of the average but I do not see the "reefer madness" logic applied to beer. I do not advocate kids getting stoned but drinking in moderation seems acceptable to me. Sure I see alcoholism but I also see abuse of presdription drugs, fast cars and fast food. Should we make people wait until they are 21 to eat at McDonalds or drive a Mustang.

Asshole parent, I hope some day your dumb ass gets snared by an entrapment operation. I know you think you're too smart to fall for this, but maybe another kind of crime involving kids.

Ok,let me try and put this as simply as I can.

Standing on a busy street corner yelling "Drugs for sale" and arresting the one who tries to buy drugs - NOT entrapment.

Approaching an individual and saying "Hey Mr., please buy some drugs from me" and then arresting that individual, ENTRAPMENT.

Maybe in their next operation can they can encourage people to speed and then bust them.

Radiophile, you forgot to say that the person asking you to buy drugs is a cop or cop partner.

Heres another example:

VDOT allows trees to grow over speed limit sign which lowers speed limit by 10 mph.

Cops run radar trap just past obscured sign.

Citizens ticketed for speeding. (both from the area , who may have seen the sign before, and citizens from another place who have never seen the sign)

Never said u were...All i'm saying is that if someone who looks underage, or anyone for that matter, asks "somebody" to buy alcohol, all they have to do is say no. All they are doing is looking for some dumbass to fall for that. Kind of like picking up hookers on the side of the road. Is it ilegal, yes, well...get a freaking clue.

Citizens take pictures and go to court saying speed limit sign was obscured.

Cop doesn't lie, tells judge on further inspection speed limit sign was obscured, officer has taken action to remedy situation.

Ticket is thrown out by judge.

(Please note in the above scenario, the officer has to tell the truth in court. Hahaha, right? Actually, I saw it happen once.)

Is beer really the demon the government is making it out to be? If we keep holding it as some secret thing that only a 21 year old and up should have of course kids are going to be curious and bust their ass to get some.

I do not think we give 18-21 year olds enough credit to do the right thing. Of course the media fans the flames every time a kid gets into a wreck ignoring the multitude of adults doing the same thing. When five kids are killed in a couple of months are we also aware that literally millions of kids in this area are not getting in trouble.

So this weekend me and my friend were at a movie. These two kids ask him for a cig and soon as he pulled them out and handed one over cops, pigs, cows and all sorts of farm animals came out of the bushes, trees and any place you could hide. They arrested him and took him away in the farm use only truck and I've not heard from him since.

I'm not defending them. It's illegal and I would never do it. What I have a problem with is the police, using our tax money, are going out and creating perps out of people that otherwise would not be committing a crime. That is essentially creating a crime, and it's unethical, a betrayal to the community, and a was of tax dollars and police time. We have MS13 wielding machetes around here and these nuckleheads are out inventing crimes? It's absurd.

They're doing it again:

Has Fairfax County become so crime-free that they have to go out and create crimes?

I'm really curious to know when you're guilty. Is it when you accept money, or when you leave the store with the booze, or is it when you hand it over to the kid?

I'm asking because after reading about their little sting operations, I'd cut and run with the money if they ever tried to "shoulder tap" me..

True, I would rather see these officers staking out the areas where all these rapes keep happening or finding the guy who keeps trying to abduct kids.

A great operation! How many underage drinkers were saved from DUI? Let's continue this public safety program with renewed vigor. A lot of arrests at 7-Elevens--don't these folks understand? Maybe not, if they speak Urdu.

So Bob James, you got flamed and dismissed in this thread when you posted with your "Fairfax Citizen" handle, and now you come back and post as "Jimmy", expecting something different?

You're seriously more deranged than Meade Skelton, and trust me, that's saying alot.

Now go get your fuckin shinebox.

How does this stop underage drinking? You're confusing this with stings on stores that don't card. Read the thread and links before giving your stupid opinion.

What I dont get about this kind of sting is, the cadet/police have to break the law first inorder for you to get busted.. hemm, chicken or the egg..

If we still have citizen arrest powers in FFxCo, then the shoulder tapping sting could have a very different and entertaining outcome.

If I had a hunch that this was a sting, I wonder what would happen if I decided to pull a citizens arrest on the cadet/kid for shoulder tapping. and then when the cops show up (..with guns drawn and shoot you, IHOP style..) , tell them you would like to have that person arrested since you were a witness to the crime.

That would blow there fragile little minds..!

Im kinda joking about this, but I bet it would be the last shoulder tapping sting in FFxCo..lol

I think jimmy has a point, even if stinkypoon almost squashed it.
What the hell is this doing to prevent anything other that the off chance that some unlucky guy is getting tapped to get beer for some kid. Its like there is a rash of 30 yr olds standing around just waiting for kids to ask for beer.. its fucking rediculous if not illegal.

Does it reduce underage drinking..NO
Does it somehow reduce underage alcohol related deaths..NO, but even if it did, I dont think anyone could produce stats to the contrary.
Does it give the police something to do with the cadets and take up free time..YES

I sure someone will argue that if one litte suzzy or bobbie is saved from their own stupidity than it is worth arresting 100 people on trumpted up charges.

Control your own kids damn it!!.. Stop forcing the goverment do it for you!!!!
