If it was Eddie Donelan, he got a mention in this article back in the summer of 83. It also has the actual name of the bar.

Remember Jorge's at University Mall where Brions is at now. It was owned my a couple of Redskins and was always a good time with everyone staying local rather than driving far to another bar. Good drinks with reasonable prices and a big place with a dance floor.

Lived up by Baltimore. Went to Clancy's and the RIA (Rhode Island Ave) Club. It was on the corner of Rhode Island Ave (of course) and Bladensburg Road. It was a biker dump but a lot of fun watching the cops running around trying to round us up. From Google Earth, it is a parking lot or cars sales lot now. The building was falling down in the 70's. The place had character. Actually, it was full of characters. I'm 66 now, still riding and miss those days. I can't run as fast so those days are over for me. The Gentleman's clubs here in SC are shipping containers with a few chairs, a bar and an extension cord running in from next door for electricity. Oh, and nobody white in them. They shoot the hell out of each other in those places. And strangely, we are okay with that.

It will never be the 60's and 70's again.

Fuck right!!

The keg had live music. I threw up on the bar.

The Pier on Half St was excellent. The women were hot and the dudes giving blow jobs out in the lot never asked for money. Gay blowjobs are the best.

At one time there was a hole in the wall bar called My Mother's Place or Someplace Else located on the D.C./MD line over near Oxen Hill. I remember the place being totally white at the time but was like an island of white surrounded by a sea of niggers. The area then was totally safe and a lot of really hot women from the apartment complexes in Oxen Hill hung out there during the week. If someone could fill me in on the blanks, it would be appreciated. Good times!

According to his biographer, Jim Morrison used to hang out at a place called the Club Log Tavern at 2814 Richmond Highway. Long gone. He may have even seen Danny Gatton play there. I don't know the Richmond Highway (Route One) area very well, but the MD counterpart was Chick Hall's Surf Club, on Route One in Hyattsville. Fond memories.

I can guzzle the Bud down like a champ but Bill and his Buds could drink me under the table without breaking out a bottle opener

How about Frank's Hide away? I met my husband there back in 1976. He came down in look me up at the green read where I hung out every Friday night. From that moment on we were together. We were married 35 years until he died 5 years ago of pancreatic cancer. Good memories great times.

Oops ... earlier post was supposed to say I met by husband at Frank's hideaway in Fort Belvoir in 1976 and he came to D.C. that next weekend to meet me at the Greenery. We were together from that time forward 35 years until his death in 2015 at age 67.

It was called beneath it all. It was below the Crazy Horse. There was another Cellar bar closer to the bridge. Can't remember the name of it it was on a corner

All the music venues are gone or shutting down. I miss the Roxy, Hammerjacks, Jacks, Bayou, etc.

Yea, it’s hard to go out anymore and find a place where racists or misogynists or reactionary dudes can let their hair down and tell the world what they really think. Bummer. Have you thought of joining a biker’s club (if you haven’t already)? I hear they’re still partying in their clubhouse like it’s 1971!

I waited tables in the Alley with Baseball at The Hawk, and then moved with him to Mike Palms. I took the bar in that seedy hole when Baseball left.

Put something of interest up about bars and their history in the Nova area or STFU

The absolute best dive bar in the area you describe was Old Mac's (or Mac's Pipi and Drum, officially). It was the very last watering hole on the north side of M St., before Key Bridge. No sign outside, basically communal seating, wallpaper of glued-up old British newspapers, dirt cheap beer, great jukebox. Paradise.

lots of great dives or even trying to be nyc style places back in the 80's
parking was even possible in neighborhoods near bars back then
now the f'ing blm antifa commies have locked down dc so much that it is illegal to open bars, impossible to open with the regulations, and no where to park without dc ticket tow nazi commies
face it, libs turn everyhing into lock down shitholes

This. It had a plain white ball sign over the front door that said BAR. That was it. It had 60 cent drafts up to the mid 1970s. It was there until the early to mid 1980s when it turned into just another over priced G'town fern bar. I even forget its name.

Later, after the Annapolis version of WHFS got sold to Duchoissis & WHFS forgot where it came from (they brought back Judy, who always played this disco & feminist crap), it became Poseur's & was another over priced G'town joint full of these phony 'HFSers.

Poseur's did go away right about the time Duchoissis figured out the Einsteins had canned Judy from WHFS twice in the 1970s for a reason. WHFS lost a lot of Listeners when they put Judy as the all night DJ. The only thing decent she'd ever play was the occasional Ramones track. Other than that, it was disco & feminist crap. Duchoissis wound up selling it shortly after they canned Judy. They probably realized the damage was done.

I never liked Crazy Horse or Beneath It All. They were both high pressure clip joints where shitty count excuses for "women" hung out.

I didn't know those same guys owned Tick-Tock. I bought many a case & six there. They never had a prob. with my out of state Id's. I even had a D/L from Canada & they were OK with that. Sometimes they had some pretty good sales, too.

If you paid your check promptly at Quarry House at closing time, you had enough time to make it to Capt White's in time for one beer then last call.
