FCPS to Cut ALL Freshman Sports.

From the FCPS wesite:

“In addition to eliminating all freshman sports, two additional sports—winter cheerleading and indoor track—will be eliminated along with the drill team coaching supplement, and swim and dive team practices will be reduced by 50 percent.†The budget has yet to be approved by the Board of Supervisors.

Have I missed this in an earlier discussion? Cutting ALL freshman sports so the taxpayers can pay for full day daycare for the 5 year olds? I hope the BOS have more sense than to approve this.

We need some common sense on the SB. Too many mistakes and not enough feed back allowed by the parents who care. Enough with the current SB!

I thought this was from last year. They've already eliminated winter cheer (good riddance) but kept Freshman sports.

This is from last year. FCPS is not considering the elimination of freshmen sports this year, and after the community display last year, I do not think they'll ever consider that again.

It's the typical scare tactic when budget time rolls around. The SB threatens to cut something so that parents raise hell so that BOS increases funding for the schools. I'd be very surprised if they actually cut anything.

More bad decisions, are you going to post an apology to the school board? You said you were sorry to us, but have not retracted your public accusation that the school board made this decision with the direct intention of using that money to fund a daycare program.

The only thing worse than cutting cheerleading and the Thrill Team, er I meant Drill Team, would be to cut swimming enitrely.
