Are the days numbered for 29 Diner in Fairfax City

Seems lately the place shuts down early, not just Monday nights anymore.

The IHOP and Denny's killing there business?

That diner is one of the coolest things about this whole area.
It would be a crime if it closed.
Sure, it's kind of dirty, and the employees seem like escapees from the prison for the criminally insane, but it has a juke box , and it's own unique charm.
The cherry pie a la mode is kickin!
But the local douche population doesn't frequent the place in favor of the chains, just like douche do.

I suspect that many of the older regulars of the place are probably getting up there in years and starting to die off. This is making it harder for the diner to survive as many young folks would avoid it - probably for reasons ProVallone stated.

I'm not a big fan of scrapple - or any super mysterious meat for that matter, but, if you want it, the Rt 29 diner will make you a fried scrapple sandwich. You can't get that at IHOP or Denny's. I'm actually surprised how Denny's has survived. Any time I've been there, it seems like their waitresses are some dumb crack bitches that have a major attitude problem, screw your order up and just basically provide you with horrible service.

Damn - reminds me of places we used to stop at while driving cross-country in the late 50s/early 60s.

Cherry Coke, anyone?

Found a pubic hair in my hash browns once there. Never been again, and this was in early 2001. That being said, I found a pubic hair in my grits at a waffle house, never been there again either. Used to love both places, but wont even think about going to either one again.

Pretty gross.

Probably not pubic, but beard/eyebrow.

Or rat.

Maybe theyll attract the douchy population if they rename it to 'Douche Diner'

I love the diner! maybe its a little greasy but we used to go saturday afternoon and always had the same waitress and cooks and they were always nice and made the food correctly and it was great! did go there during the week sometimes and it wasn't the same. bad staff who didnt care, but go there weekend mornings and it should be okay. plus the french toast rules!

If they want to survive they need to consider how to advertise and market better. Their prices are so cheap and they are open 24 hours, which is appealing to anyone at some point. It's unique and has good energy.

Denny's is horrible--I've vomited their food on several occasions, and they hire work release from the jail. That's who is making the food back there.

I used to eat there whenever I was in Fairfax City. I loved it for years, and still have fond memories of the place. They last time I ate there, I went with two other people. Our bill came to a total of less than $10. Being a former food worker, I thought $2 was a reasonable tip. The waitress actually said in front of the whole place that I should leave her at least $3 WTFever. Some older, fugly looking lady

Minimum tip is $1 per person. $5 at hooters though.

I had a ho-hum breakfast in there earlier. It actually wasn't greasy, just sorta average. I like the place for what it is, but it's really not that great.

Something I found quite amusing: there was a large uncovered pot of brown gravy just sitting back behind the counter the whole time. It was sorta gross and made me lol.

Whenever I drive past that diner, there are usually a few cars parked in the lot so I am assuming they have customers. And yes, it is a historical building so I doubt it is going anywhere. Having said that, the place has a unique ambiance LOL.

I do not like the Dennys that is right around the corner from there. The service is very slow, the food is not good at all and the wait staff are not very nice. Because of this, I have only eaten there a few times and not recently. But it always seems crowded so there must be fans out there.

Let's hope it stays right where it is and how it is. Too many people seem to be too uptight about dining in a REAL diner. Long live the 29 Diner!!
