Graffiti / Street Art in the Area

I started noticing a lot of stickers and stuff around the area, but until I found this site on DeviantArt, I had no idea that graffiti ("street art") was so prevalent in the community.

I'm kind of curious to find out more about it, especially after starting to notice a few pieces around the area by my house, so I emailed the guy who ran this little online gallery, and even ended up submitting a picture.

THE SITE: http://streetartnova.deviantart.com/
SEND PICTURES TO: novastreetart@gmail.com

The guy said that he's looking for anything (stickers, stencils, tags, wheat-pastes, etc).

I'm gonna go hunting tomorrow by some bypasses and see if I can't find any more pictures to submit.

if you want to make art using spray paint buy a fucking canvas. alternatively, you can spray your car or your own house. however, if you want to paint it on public property in order to force other people to see it, i would like to spray paint over your eyes.

First off, please direct your rage towards the graffiti artists. Don't shoot the messenger.

Secondly... how do you feel about advertising? Does them paying for it make it better than graffiti?

Actually yes, at least they are paying for it. Unlike graffiti, which is ultimately paid for by the taxpayers when the county has to go and clean that shit up.

Don't be too enthralled with the graffiti. A lot of what you see actually relates to local gangs. While there appears to be continuing successes in limiting gang influence in the County, there are a number of reprobates that desecrate our beautiful county. In your quest to capture this "art," you may wish to check with the local police department that would have access to the intelligence files that contain the gang graffiti.

Somehow, I don't think they'd give that info to just anyone.
