Your best bet is DC Assualt or Team Takeover if your son is very good..

Nova Elite and the Nova Suns are lower level AAU teams, that still have great competition. There are several others too, that I will try and find and post.

I tried to look up Nova Elite and I suppose they no longer operate, as their site is gone.

Here's another AAU program, but I wasn't impressed with them: http://virginiarapidsbasketball.org/index.html

Then I also forgot to mention the Fairfax Stars and I believe BRYC fields AAU teams aswell.

my younger brother plays for fairfax stars 13u and they are ranked number 16 in the country so theyre pretty good. I used to play for the Cardinals. They are run out of Mt.Vernon High School. DC assult is also very good as well as team takeover.

The Annadale Bulldogs are the AAU teams that operate under the Annadale Boys And Girls Club. They tend to be very organized and they dont charge all the extra monies teams like Fairfax Stars do.They have varried level of boys and girls teams. I know Their 7th grade boys, 9th grade boys, and 10th grade boys are very competetive teams.Dont know much about the rest. Good Luck !

Living in Centreville here is what I have found for my 8th and 9th grade boys.

VA Elite: Missed the tryouts. Looks like an extensive program. http://www.vaelitehoops.com/

Fairfax Stars: a lot of the teams folded this past year, I hear they're way over hyped for what they deliver on the boys side. http://www.fairfaxstars.org/

Nova Cavs: A lot of high school coaches in this program, including 2 varsity head coaches. Tryouts are next weekend. New team for 8th grade, returning for 9th. http://www.novacavs.com/

Nova 94 Feet: New team for 8th grade, returning for 9th. Tryouts are next weekend. http://www.nova94feet.com/

BRYC: Tryouts are tonight for 8th and 9th grade. Do not know much about the program. http://www.brycbasketball.org/

Any I am leaving off? At this point both my sons will tryout for BRYC. Then probably both the Cavs and 94 Feet next weekend.

Nova 94 Feet ended up not fielding an 8th grade team from what I heard. The other teams are all good, another team is the Nova Heat which has a bunch of Burke area players, they're pretty deep at both 8th and 9th grade but their roster is finalized.

Too much personal interest with WCAC coaches. All they will do is send you to a program that will recruit for them if they are good enough, and if your an average AAU player like most, they could give a shit about where your son plays.

Of the 13 teams they have 1 tournament championship, not a winning program, just dads coaching their sons there.

Hater about Nova94Feet ...

1. I suggest you check the site again, especially after this weekend ... assuming you can count.

2. Dad's can and do win, especially when one of the dad's played varsity hoops at Penn. Not all coaches are dads, BTW, one played on the George Mason Final 4 team.

3. There is a world of difference between the talent level in some tournaments versus others. It can mean a lot more to get a third place finish in some tourneys than a championship in others.

Still see one championship, and all the accolades are weak tournaments. You are right about tournament strength from the standpoint you can go winless and play a lot better than another tournament where you go unbeaten and win the championship, it's all about competition level. I never see a 94 Feet team at the good tournaments. It's for little kids, and then a last resort for those that don't make other teams for older ones.

NOVA 94 Feet is stupid
I tried out for their 8th grade team
(I missed alot of other tryouts for that) and was probably gonna make the team. We were looking pretty good, their were talented kids there....
the day before the last tryout i got an email saying they canceled the 8th grade team and good luck trying to find another team
Meanwhile all the tryouts for other teams were DONE.
They didnt even refund the $10 i paid to try out
Not trying to sound nitpicky, just sayin the truth
it doesnt matter how many tournaments you have one if you ruin a kid's last season of bball before high school
I see no commitment, if the coach couldn't do it they should have tried to find another coach
This has happened with most of the AAU teams i have tried out for
IMO AAU is overrated
I played in the FCYBL and it at least was like a normal league

I disagree AAU is overrated, you should have tried out for a team with a better reputation. A lot do not fold and from my experience even if your team does fold, most teams are looking to add good players throughout the year. I had a team fold and found one at the end of June. As a player AAU definitely helped me from the standpoint what I went against in tournaments was way harder than anything I saw in high school. Even though my team was terrible, I think it made me a much better player which was the purpose of me doing AAU. The winning was trivial.

Apparently, you still can't count.

There were two championships on the site yesterday, are two there today, and when the next update makes the list, there will be five, after three A teams won titles in their grades this weekend.

One thing you got right ... the club is stronger in the younger grades. Not Team Takeover, Team Glory or DC Assault strong, but strong among Northern Virginia teams, and very competitive against most Maryland teams.

Fill us in on what those "strong" tournaments are when you get the chance. If you were at the Potomac Valley Regionals, for instance, you would have seen several Nova 94 Feet teams there.

Some of the more well known ones based in Fairfax are the Fairfax Stars, NOVA Cavs, NOVA 94 Feet, Alexandria Kings and Nova-Heat, but not sure if they folded or not. All usually have an open tryout after the high school season.

Outside of Fairfax, you have several in Prince William and Loudoun.

game time is the best way to improve/develop individual game. Evolution is a bit of a racket (again, in my opinion) - high cost that doesn't necessarily translate into any real game time. Get on an AAU team during off season to improve.

For teams like those your son will get noticed in things such as rec leagues or at their schools. If they're not tearing up their leagues they're not worthy of those teams. Ultra elite teams are awesome, but they have some real dumb asses coaching a lot of those teams and shady characters galore. Just look at DC Premiere's founder (former DC Assault who is now in prison for running a heroin ring)

So the 10th grade team calls themselves finalist of the following tournaments on their website: http://nova94feet.squarespace.com/tournament-results/

More Than Basketball Spring Jamboree--Runners-up
Maryland Flames NTBA State Championship--Runners-up
YBOA State Qualifier/Nova Suns Classic--Runners-up

When you go to the More Than Basketball Spring Jamboree they are not the finalist, I was in the tournament -- link below. Curious I looked up the YBOA State Qualifier and it also says they were not the finalist. WTF? Does this program make up tournament results? Never seen anything like that.

NOVA Suns Classic: http://tourneymachine.com/Public/Results/Division.aspx?IDTournament=h201405151615086184552fbae2b9c49&IDDivision=h201405151646472639c55f53ec20f4b

nova 94 third grade orange = team takeover 2023. Just sayin'. Several players are on both teams, and they're very, very talented kids. Only TTO went to nationals, though, finishing ninth. Will Nova 94 ever have such a loaded team again, in any age group? Dalonte Hill has his doubts . . .

Take a bit of advice from Kobe Bryant on AAU basketball. Stay away. "AAU basketball," Bryant said. "Horrible, terrible AAU basketball. It's stupid. It doesn't teach our kids how to play the game at all so you wind up having players that are big and they bring it up and they do all this fancy crap and they don't know how to post. They don't know the fundamentals of the game. It's stupid." But Bryant, who holds an annual summer basketball camp, also was quick to point out that any solution involving changing the current culture of AAU basketball won't happen overnight.

"That's a deep well because then you start cutting into people's pockets," Bryant said. "People get really upset when you start cutting into their pockets because all they do is try to profit off these poor kids. There's no quick answer."

Lol, Virginia Elite is a Mess. Really talented, yes. But they bringing in new players all the time and kids are quitting. most of the players pLay for themselves and the coaches allow it.

Two things...

Your kid sucks. If they can't make the school team, they suck.

He isn't going to make you millions in the NBA.

Morons.

When are try-outs? I don't have a spring sport and don't want to just do track.

Define "good". As in:
- won't rip me off by taking my money and sitting my kid?
- will win a national championship?
- will get my son a look from recruiters?
- will not burn out my kid?
- will teach fundamentals?
- will beat other Nova teams but will get asses kicked in DC and PG?

What are you looking for? How good are you/your kid? Are you playing FCYBL? Are you Loudon? Fairfax? PW?

D1SA Blows. Nova Cavs rulez. Best coaches and players.

Where do girlz play? Who are the good squads? I think Vogues rules all ages.

Don't play BRYC. Trash organization. May have been bigger 10 years ago, but only hacks play there now.

Nova Cavs is much better. Go there.

Keep your kids away from the expensive, (crazy adult) ego driven nuttiness. Even if your kid is an outstanding player, many (not all) of these travel teams - all sports, BTW (soccer travel is worse) - are "managed" by insane people.
