drivers license scanners

Went to a bar in southern Va the other night while on a business trip. The bouncers at the door demanded I D from everyone regardless of how old or young they looked.

They then put the license into a scanner and read the correct age. I am not familiar with the scanners, is it also reading and storing my personal info? I know of a friend who went into a bar a few weeks back and they had a similar device. Within a few weeks she started getting ads from the business asking her to return.

Is this also legal?

Before you drop this to the non Fairfax/off topic posts the bar she went to was in Fairfax. I will get the name at work tomorrow to let posters know.

Well, there is a barcode on the back of your DL that stores your personal data. It depends on the state. In certain states, it may even have your SSN, address, and stuff on it.

thanks for the link. I had seen the ones in the ABC store but the guy showed me how it only reads the date of birth and lets them know yes we can sell or no we cannot.
Sucks to think of some restaurant getting all my info and how secure or unsecure they are with it. My fault for not stopping it before it happened.

In the long run I wonder if someone who is only slightly determined can get all my info anyway without much trouble.

I had considered putting a strong magnet next to it for a few days to see if the info would be erased off the strip.

This is the information stored in the barcode:
Name
Address
State
Zipcode
DL#
DL Classification
DL Restriction
DL Endorsements
DL Expiration
DL Issue Date
DOB
Sex
City (?)
Height
Organ Donor Y/N

This is the information printed on the card itself:
Name
Address
State
Zipcode
DL#
DL Classification
DL Restriction
DL Endorsements
DL Expiration
DL Issue Date
DOB
Sex
City (?)
Height
Organ Donor Y/N

....

on the note of feeling insecure... I hope everyone realizes that all of the new passports, there is an RF chip with all your information. Anyone close enough could read it right out of your purse..

imagine your visiting a foreign country and somebody has developed a bomb that reads RF signatures and checks them for a certain "coutry of origin", and you hit it.. BOOM

** New passwords: can't remember when it started, but i got mine last october and its the new style

My bad, guess I was thinking of the one on the credit card. Anyone else have the experience at clubs in Fairfax and know if they are using the info or storing it? The girl I work with wasnt in today, couldnt find out the name of the club where she was at that the info was captured and used for advertising.
