Vet wants over $800 to extract cat tooth - reasonable or insane?
Posted by: RJ ()

I really like the service I get at the verterinarian clinic I go to in Centreville but I've always felt they were a bit on the pricier side with their fees. However, a quote of more than $800 to pull a tooth seems unreasonable to me. Granted, this includes x-rays, anesthesia, post-op follow up and pain meds but I really expected the cost to be about a third of that.

Any opinions on wether these costs are in line or not?

Just give your little kitty some JD and pull it out yourself. For $50.00 I will come over and help you.

I've actually considered one of the Salvadoran laundrymat dentists for some really routine stuf like cleanings or replacing a filling. I would roll the dice on something small.

Negotiate with those fuckers. Tell them you'll pay them $400.

Yes, it's too much. I had my dog's tooth pulled last year and it was $300. I just went through putting him to sleep and it cost me $250, so you can do the cost comparison on that.

Yeah, if the cat only cost you 25 bucks to begin with, it's 775 bucks too much. Also, you can put it to sleep yourself for free.

Chantilly Animal Hospital has a dental health month for February and probably could do the extraction and full cleaning for around $400.
Both my cats had teeth extractions there before.

Pay 800 for a feline dentist OR sell the cat to an asian restaurant for 50 bucks.

Fuck cats. If there some sort of "life energy transference" technology existed, you'd better believe I'd have held down 100 cats so my dog could have lived another 10 years.

The vet we've used ever since we had pets around here, used to charge a decent fee. However, the old, original vet left, and ever since the new lady took over and added a bunch of new equipment, she charges crazy amounts.

Just do it yourself. Or better yet just kill it, along with 4-5 other cats as well. Cats and cat owners are lame fucks. Congratulations.

ALL of the vets around here overcharge because they have high overhead and know people will pay the price. The older, old-school vets are mostly retired and these new 20 something girls who probably spent a lot of money on vet school are taught to charge higher by their superiors. Don't even think about going to an Animal Hospital, $116 to get in the door. After my last, horrible experience, having spent $1,400 for a failed surgery and another $300 to have my dog put out of his misery, makes me never want to have another one.

Find a vet in Staunton or Harrisonburg.

I recently (2 months ago) had 2 inset teeth removed from my pomeranian puppy, which required anesthesia, only cost 380$ at fairfax animal hospital. They are a great place with very reasonable prices. Very kind english speaking white people. Bring your cat to them. Don't put your cat down over a tooth.

My cat just got 4 teeth extracted (included anesthesia, pain killers, etc) for $300..I opted to not get the pre-op blood work or post opt appnt. She's fine! So, YES, that's TOO much!!

Meggie,

Who is your vet? And to the person who mentioned it, no, cat isn't going to get put down over the tooth issue.

Town & Country on Fairfax Blvd. They're my cat's regular vet, though, and may require your cat to get a "check up" and they need to be up to date on their shots (rabies and distemper). So, if these things aren't met..they may make you do them at their office, which will up the price.

Town and Country is the best...Dr.Davis Hall Sr. is awesome,a real old school country vet. He has the clinic mentioned above and Columbia Pike animal hospital in Annandale.

I adopted a stray dog 15+ years ago and took him there because they had the best neuter deal...well they did okay in the long run as I took him there for the 15 1/2 years he lived along with several other personal dogs along the way and countless rescue dogs.

While I have used other vets in the clinic and they have been competent, I have learned to book with Davis Sr. Not only does he have a wealth of knowledge and a practical outlook since it is his practice he can do things like waive blood work or the like that his employees may or may not be able to do.

To bad your parents didn't lay you down in front of a moving train when you were born. Now, the rest of society has to put up with your scumbag ass.

You should really have insurance for your cat, it's roughly $10-$20 per month and it will save you a lot. Unfortunately I don't think you can get the tooth covered now since it's a known issue.

It is about $500 for a human tooth extraction by an Oral Surgeon.

So $800 for a cat tooth. Way too high.

Are you some sort of mental patient. You dug up an old thread and made a really stupid comment that makes no sense. Please stand in front of the next VRE train like a Woodson student.

Suburban Animal Hospital, on Lee Highway at 66. Wonderful vets.

Many other vets are just upset that they did not get into medical school.
