It is because of No Child Left Behind.

Huh? What does this even mean?

I don't think that any reasonable person would read this and say "OK", but this does bring up an interesting dilemma. Do you force these people to move? Is that even legal? My guess is that the program authors never really thought through this scenario. I don't have a real issue if the residents earn 120-130% of the maximum income, but anything above that should not be allowed and clearly stated in the lease agreement.

Agree with Lester Burnham.

The egregious people who now have the assets and continue to receive the subsidy should opt out of the program.

It would be informative if the housing director would respond and provide some statistical information and what's being done to help the disadvantaged; and how the program is being monitored (or will be) to preclude this abuse. Is the responsible person a civil servant or political appointee?

OK. Maybe I'm not doing the math right (good chance. I suck at math) but in these programs, the typical amount of rent you must pay is 30% of your income. If someone is making $120,000 a year isn't their rent going to be higher then the place is worth?

Do I just not get it?

I don't really get why people aren't required to submit yearly tax returns in order to qualify for this program. Seems like a no-brainer to me. If you send in your tax return and earn more than the program allows, you should be given three months to find somewhere else to live. Some people may complain about this, but what is worse? Pushing people to move who have the means to live somewhere else, or denying a family making $40K a year a subsidized place to live because some asshole making $120K doesn't want to move.

This is very interesting I am renting a place right now under Fairfax ADU, and to get it I had to show two pay stubs to prove I made under x and worked in the same county. After my least expires if I make more money at that time I sure won't be able to qualify again.

When i used to rent, every apartment I lived in reverted to month-to-month once the lease expired. I don't know what Virginia law says about this, but I am assuming something like that is happening here.

I used in a townhouse community that included ADU's. Occasionally, some of those owners would have these big screen tv boxes at the curb. Now, I know why.

Drive in Southeast DC and look into the windows of the homes in Barry Fams in Anacostia. You will see, poor people like big TV's.
