Traffic Projection for Occoquan River Bridge

Does anyone else find a 400% projected vehicle increase in less than 15 years excessive?

"The bridge currently carries about 32,000 vehicles a day and by 2020 is expected to carry 119,000 vehicles daily."

Where are these cars going? Is a widened Route 123 going to be used as a gateway to the FXCO Parkway and/or bypass for I-95/495?

Well, that explains why they bought the land rights to make 123 as wide as 6 lanes vs. the 4 it currently is (from Davis - north).

Scary, huh.

I love how VDOT is starting to figure out that they might have a problem. Only 3 major routes going north (Rt.1, I-95, and Rt.123). They need to start plans on creating a "double-decker" I-95 or we will be really screwed in 20 years.

hopefully another megatropolis or two will spring up somewhere and perhaps ease the overburden that the current ones have.

That and pedestrian deaths in traffic while they carelessly walk into lanes of traffic in front of cars.

Stuff is already moving out westward (gov and contracting) to the Winchester area.

Bridge is complete, for the most part... All 6 lanes open. I live right there and it seems like its just to help people get off 123 faster, whether it be to old bridge rd or to 95 (which are both imediately after the bridge).. and it was never a huge problem but it should also help with people getting onto 123 from old bridge or wherever..

as far as the 400% increase... i mean, the cars still have to come from somewhere... it might be able to move alot faster, but theres still only gonna be so many people in the area who want/can use it
