Am I completely out of line or what? I live in an apartment building in Arlington that is considered "Controlled Access", yet the Front Desk people allow anyone in the building without checking where they are going or what they are doing in the building. The doors and garage are always broken so anyone can get into them, it takes days sometimes weeks to get them fixed.

I am not saying that everyone is out to get me or anyone in my building, although there are lots of single woman and children who live in my building. When I inquired to the managers of the building they told me I should look at the crime website and educate myself about the area. Although, I feel that is neither here nor there. I've lived in Arlington for 6 years now and I live near the Courthouse. I'm not saying it is a bad area, I just feel that when you advertise something, you should follow through, especially when I chose this building for that reason. Wouldn't you want to be proactive instead of reactive??

Controlled access is meant to keep moron petty thefts and stupid kids at bay. Nothing more. A dedicated thief who is intent on B/E will get in regardless...

Yes that is true. I guess if you put your mind to something, you can do whatever you are setting out to do.

You think that's bad? Talk about the bullshit security in gated communities that the home owners pay an arm and a leg in HOA fees.

When my older sis lived in West NY, NJ, her building used to have one of those doors that you had to get buzzed into through the actual tenant. Of course it could be overcome if you found a willing stranger to buzz you in, but it was a safeguard. On top of that, her individual apartment door had about a half-dozen locks. Of course that never stopped the black kids from jacking her car, and stripping it clean in a junkyard.

Yah, the cutoff between the Arlingtons is slowly creeping northwards. I used to thing Arlington Blvd was the divide, but in parts, its clearly as far north as Wilson Blvd.

Really? Isn't it the opposite - that people who wouldn't consider buying south of 50 some years ago are now going a couple blocks south with signs that it will keep heading that direction? Gentrification and everything...

HAHA you all are hilarious. Yes Courthouse area still has lots of us English speakers, although the occasional sketchy and creepy individuals, which is why I was floored that all they told me to do was look at the crime report, like it would help me predict what would happen to me if I'm not careful, which is exactly what I was trying to do.

Of course, nothing has come of it yet, except me getting upset, so I guess I'll stick with my pink weapon and be very happy about it :)
