Best Chinese Food in Fairfax County
Posted by: Chinese Food Lover ()
Date: September 06, 2007 03:18PM

OK, I admit it. I have an addiction for quality Chinese food. I have eaten at many Chinese restaurants in the county and no place is as good as the Asian Grill in Springfield. While they provide dine-in and carryout, they do not deliver. Does anyone know of a high quality Chinese restaurant that delivers in the Springfield area? My experience to date has been watered-down soup, over-cooked egg rolls, and heated up entres. My family's gold standard is the Asian Grill--food is fresh, there's no cutting corners, and the preparation is excellent. Other recommendations?

Wegmans Chinese at the hot bar is probably the best I've tasted in the area. Second would be Charlie Chaings. Third would be Fortune in Reston. They have good dim sum 7 days a week. -§

No to PF Changs and Pei Wei. That's mostly fusion and is uninspiring for the most part.

Wegmans has a few signature chinese dishes that are much better than the flavored grissle and dog meat that the other low overhead establishments serve. Highly recommend. It's bit pricey, but insanely addictive.

Who the heck wants to eat general tso's knuckles for dinner anyway? -§

Peking Duck, from Duk Wo in the OLD Burke shopping ctr. hidden by the railroad overpass, is my favorite dish. They have great fried dumplings there, way better than others.

There used to be a place in Springfield that was really legendary, but that was at least 25 yrs ago.

You cannot be serious!!! Wegman's, puuuhleaz. I am a huge fan of Furtune but recently have been passing them up to go to Lucky Three in Bailey's. Mark's Duck house is supposed to be good but check the health dept. web site with all the "critical" violations. Seems they are closed at least once a month because of sanitary reasons, roach and mice infestations. But what I really want to know is how do they re-open the same day after they are closed for the roach and mice problem....things that make ya go hmmmmmmmmmm?

I knew a chick that grew up in Beijing and I asked her about good Chinese places, her recommendation was Peter Pan, she said it reminded her the most like the food she grew up with, and told me that many Chinese immigrants think the same. Never been over there though. It must be worth checking out based on her suggestion.

Wow! I'm going to be busy trying out your many recommendations. While the Asian Grill, Springfield, is the gold standard, in fairness, I must recommend a Falls Church restaurant, the Peking Gourmet Inn, in the Culmore Shopping Center--it is a spectacular restaurant, with the 41st President of the USA endorsing it. These two Chinese restaurants rank within the top USA Chinese restaurants because the fresh food is cooked expertly and presented to you by incredible servers. Darrin and Jenny at the Asian Grill make a special effort to ensure that the food is fresh and prepared perfectly. Robert, at the Peking Gourmet, has used his chemistry background to grow Chinese onions and other vegetables to support his restaurant's fine reputation for well-prepared and delicious food. Thank you for your recommendations.

I think most of the food at PF Chang's is great, but I'm not sure it really qualifies as "real" Chinese food. Still good though, I've actually eaten there so many times over the past few years that I'm tired of their menu.

Another great place here in Tysons is Hunan Lion. It's in the 'toilet bowl' building on 123. Sorta pricey, but excellent food.

Try Pacific Cafe on Burke Centre Pkwy, near Rt. 123 (Burke? Fairfax Station?). It's small, and sometimes the service is stretched thin, because it's usually busy. You can order interesting, unusual dishes and still bring along friends who prefer the usual fare.

Hmm PF Changs at least has to uphold their cleanliness standards which is the reason why it's the ONLY chinese restaurant I will go to. I stopped going to the local chinese restaurants after being served shrimp with shrimp poop hanging out at all times. This goes for Asian grill, house of dynasty, magic wok, That place in springfield plaza too. And one in seven corners where a roach appeared and the chinese waitress just squashed it. Alsoooo I don't think they always serve livestock meat seems like cat and dog or other nastyness. Have fun with real chinese food!

Not among the very best in the county and not worth a trip but Hunan Heritage in Annandale wins something for most improved.

Just a little small take-out place. Used to be OK, then kind of fell way off. Still just a hole in the wall but lately they've stepped up the quality of the food a LOT. Last few tries have been among some of the better Chinese take out that I've ever had from anywhere. Don't know what changed but whatever it was took them from meh... to damn good!

They're also not a Chinese food restaurant, but a Chinese-style American restaurant. They are tasty and have great service, but let's be real about what they offer. The same sugary meat slop that Americans devour at all the other so-called Chinese restaurants in the area.

A&J may be the best Chinese restaurant in the county.

100 Degree Chinese Cuisine is also a standout.

China Star was the ultimate in the county, but it really went to the shitter after the ownership change. I've heard they may have improved, but I haven't bothered to check them out.

Sampan Cafe in Franconia is solid. Just make sure you order from their Chinese menu and not the Chinese-style American slop menu.

Hong Kong Palace in Falls Church is my favorite. Hyper-authentic Sichuan (not Hong Kong style, despite the name). Chef Liu Chaosheng's other restaurants, Uncle Liu's Hot Pot in Merrifield and Mala Tang in Arlington, are also excellent.

China Star in Fairfax, which has upped its game (but will never be as good as when Chang was there) is still very good, too. Also Sichuan.

A&J in Annandale is excellent Taiwanese food. The dim sum is the best in the area.

Mark's Duck House in Falls Church is where you want to go for Hong Kong-style Chinese. Also good dim sum.

Canton Cafe in Springfield, renamed Golden Hong Kong, but still serving Cantonese cuisine, is the best (maybe the only) real Cantonese in the area.

I'm no connoisseur of Hunan cuisine, so I don't have a recommendation there. As for Americanized Chinese food, Asian Grill in Springfield does a great job there.

Fairfaxian & ncTuy's recommendations are good.

China Garden in Rosslyn is also worth checking out. If you like dim sum, go on a Sunday. Their menu has Americanized as well as Chinese entrees and is delicious.

I love their duck dishes: taro-stuffed duck, tea-smoked duck, duck feet lohan

Other good stuff: lamb Hunan, beef w/ bitter melon, chicken and jelly fish

If you like your Americanized stuff, yes, they have the standard mainland USA stuff too like General Tsos.

Very old school "fancy" kine Chinese restaurant with the lazy Susan, white tablecloths, etc.
