Herndon Day-Labor Center To Close

Town Won't Appeal Anti-Solicitation Ruling

POSTED: 7:05 pm EDT September 5, 2007
UPDATED: 7:46 pm EDT September 5, 2007

HERNDON, Va. -- Herndon's day-labor center will close after the town council decided not to appeal a court ruling that found the town's anti-solicitation law unconstitutional.

Mayor Stephen DeBenedittis made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.

On Aug. 29, Circuit Court Judge Leslie Alden found the anti-solicitation law unconstitutional. DeBenedittis said the absence of an enforceable anti-solicitation law makes the day-labor site unnecessary.

"The viewpoint of the majority of this Council is that a regulated site was necessary only as a means of enforcing the Town's anti-solicitation ordinance," DeBenedittis said. "As there is no longer an enforceable ordinance, there is no longer a reason for the town of Herndon to support a regulated day worker site."

As a result, when Reston Interfaith Inc. stops its operation of the site on Sept. 14, the site will close.

DeBenedittis said Herndon will strictly enforce zoning regulations prohibiting day-worker assembly sites.

The mayor said going forward with an appeal of the Circuit Court ruling regarding the anti-solicitation law would be a waste of Herndon's financial and staffing resources.

The town will not support Reston Interfaith's continued operation of the day-labor center because the non-profit organization refuses to ask laborers their immigration status, News4's Jane Watrel reported.

I guess we can expect more of this except in Fairfax where Jerry Connelly says they do not add to the crime and anyone that believes otherwise is a racist.

So Herndon trades off a Day Laborer center for dozens of illegals loitering outside of every 7-11, Home Depot, etc. What a great success.

So much for "sending them back." I would have preferred the asshole go to jail the first time he was arrested for a crime, but you Lou Dobb-types obviously know better.

Good idea, just let them all stay, in fact make evreything legal from parking violations to murder then you have a zero crime rate. Real bright idea genius.

And yes I do know better than you.

Read what I wrote, dumbass. I said they should have stuck the fucker in jail for the crime he committed in one of his previous arrests instead of sending him back to Mexico.

Some illegal rapes some chick or molests some kid and you Tom Tancredo-types say, "Send them back to Mexico." The asshole will be back here with the next Coyote run.

And no, you don't know better than me, you douchebag.

Ok I am the stupid one, you say we should lock him up for what he may do in the future? It all makes sense now. Let see you look like a killer we will put you in for thirty years, you there you look like a rapist twenty years for you. You look like a car thief just five for you.

There are 25-35 million here now, just how much would it cost to house and feed them and for how long. My plan is simple, send them all home in the summer. The school buses are not being used. We bring every school bus from all over the country and load them up. Give them gas cards to make it to mexico and dump them all out.

Well that sounds cheap. Paying somebody to round up millions of people into buses owned by other municipalties, and then giving them a gas card. What a brilliant solution, I'm surprised no on ever thought of this before. LOL, I'm sure it will work.

Most of Fairfax County's school buses wouldn't make it to Richmond, let alone Mexico.

That includes the newer ones....the batch they got in '05 have more miles on the back of the wrecker than under their own power!

Ok, so there are a few flaws, but the idea is sound. If started now we have until June 2008 to round em up. For the school buses that can't make it we will sub with Greyhounds and maybe a train or two. If the buses break down at the border we will push them over the line and make them instant Mexican condos.

Regardless of the crime, it seems you have some sort of prejudice against people that arent of the same color or race as you. I assume you are white? Almost all of your posts are borderline racist

Hey - did you ever see the movie Escape from New York?

I say we send all hardened criminals to an island somewhere and secure it so that there is no way off or out! Let them live amongst themselves, create their own rules and society, and be done with them....

The only thing we'll have to pay for would be the security costs. Given that we currently pay for security at all prisions in additon to the convicts room and board, the costs could very well be much less!

Can you imagine it - these hardended criminals would develop their own court system, appoint their own judges, grow and harvest their food, make their clothing etc...

I think with the threat of being sent to someplace like that, our nation's crime rate would go down tremendously!

There is a legal way to enter this country and an illegal way. The people I saw marching down the PW Parkway were hispanics. Is it my fault they were all hispanic? I dont think so.

Let me know the next time you travel to mexico how many labor centers they set up for Americans. Americans are forbidden to buy property in mexico. Yet here they can move right in without question.

As stated before I call em like I see em. I know what I see, my vision is 20/20 and not clouded by political correctness.
