What the hell are fighter jets doing flying over now? It's 12:43 a.m.

3rd flyover in minutes?

I don't know, but they were doing some unusual maneuvers. I saw three head towards andrews airforce or North east and two turn back towards dulles or west.

I also heard what sounded like a small aircraft engine after their engines faded off. It happened within seconds of flyover. I couldn't get to a window quick enough to see anything though.

I'm at the north end of old town and the helo has been circling at high altitude without a spotlight for at least a half hour now. Alexandria radio is quiet.

There are 2 F-16's hovering over our apt, shit is crazy. Everyone is outside and looking them. They are just hovering our place doin nothing. If anyone wats going on let us know.

DC here. Two UFOs just passed over at high altitude. Appeared to lining up for a strafing run.

I saw 1 jet follow two other planes and also looked like the jet circled the planes and forced them in a different direction. it was crazy in Springfield

Yea man, those planes were just hovering there for like 20mins and shit. They were painted in black too, I am thinking deep cover gov't op or some shit like that. And they were quiet too, didn't even make a noise. Shit is crazy right?

It could have been a drone, or this may be another case of someone flying an RC plane or helicopter and dopes thinking they are real.

There were a lot of sightings of UFOs last month all on the same day I believe Oct 23rd - NYC, Del/PA, NM, Inner Mongolia - all the same sort of object.

F-16's don't hover, and they are not quiet. Do you have any photographs or video of what you saw last night?

I heard all this last night as well and wondered what the heck was going on. I live between Guinea Rd and Roberts Rd. I thought the fighter jets were going to crash (as they sounded THAT close). I heard one and then another and figured it was an escort out of the area and that someone had breached air space over DC. I'd be curious to hear more and find out what was actually happening.

I thought I dreamed that or something. What the hell was going on?

No kidding! There was a low level F-16 flyover here awhile back. You know when F-16s are near. They are loud F'ers

You could ask the Pentagon like they did when a missile was launched off California. Their official response will be...there were no planes...you saw nothing...

As the Continental United States geographical component of the bi-national command NORAD, CONR provides airspace surveillance and control, and directs air sovereignty activities for the CONUS region. CONR and its assigned AirForce and Army assets throughout the country ensure air safety and security against potential air threats.

Since Sept. 11, 2001, CONR fighters have responded to more than 3,400 possible air threats in the United States and have flown more than 57,500 sorties with the support of Airborne Warning and Control System and air-to-air-refueling aircraft.

Several Civil Air Patrol Cessnas served as the aircraft to be intercepted.

They should play their games out in the desert. That way, the inevitable mid air collision or other fuck-up doesn't take innocent lives.

The last time I saw F-16s around here, it was a CAP, and it wasn't part of any advertised exercise. It was pretty awesome too. I had just gotten out of my car around 6PM, in the Autumn, and I could hear the Falcons hauling tail on their afterburners. They reached my neighborhood and then went down below MIL power, then the lead cut his lights off. I could barely make out the silhouette of his jet as he flew overhead, then he turned his lights back on, his wing man flashed his, and they hit afterburners again and hauled ass to the NE.

Whew! I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who heard the noise. It woke me up from a dead sleep. I thought whatever it was was going to crash into my house it was so loud. And the noise just seemed to cut off, not fade out like a plane flying away. No one else in my house heard it.

Next time I wish they could play during the day and not in the middle of the night. Some of us have to get up and go to work early in the morning. Sheesh!

So glad "Guest" posted the details. I have heard the training exercises pretty regularly when they occur, live in Springfield. It's not that big a deal and 'practicing' out in the desert would be pretty useless when they're specifically practicing over our busy urban area for the lessons needed in maneuvering here.

And Rebecca, I'm sure you were horribly inconvenienced by our military working to ensure you can go to work in the morning. I'm sure the military is so sorry they disrupted your beauty sleep. Whiny much? Practicing during the day garners just as much bitching from whiny ungrateful citizens, and it has a lot more other air traffic to interfere, plus, the point of practicing at night is kind of lost in day time.

The best time I ever had with jets was watching the F-16s engage in mock dogfights with the F-15s over Spangdahlem. What a sight.

While we're talking about fighter jets, it would be much appreciated if folks would pray or wish for the safe return of the F-22 pilot who's currently still missing around Denali, AK.

I was at work in burke and heard them from inside... about 2:30.

There are unconfirmed reports that two fighter jets forced a student pilot to land at Manassas Airport minutes.

A witness says he watched two F-16s forced a small Cessna to land at the airport off Va. 28.

Preliminary reports indicate that the Cessna violated airspace in the D.C. area.

Ok. But the larger plane in the middle that I saw was not a commercial airliner and wasn't a small Cessna. Not to say there wasn't a Cessna, just that I didn't see one. Also, the jets were flying both high and low around it. It appeared to be some kind of white large unmarked (that I could see and it went directly over me) slower cargo plane.

After reading the InsideNova story, perhaps the cargo plane was trying to stay the hell out of the way.

Did you see the large white plane? One of the jets stayed in front of it, while another stayed above it. The rest of the metal hawks circled and did their thing elsewhere. It was impressive!

Two F-16s and the USCG helicopter have been scrambled again today. They are currently airborne. At this point I think the errant plane may be in contact with ATC since the intercepting aircraft are in a holding pattern as best as I can tell.

Did you hear this on the scanner or physically see the scrambled jets and helicopter?

I'm just south of the Dulles North/South runway in Chantilly and there hasn't been a single fly-in for 20 minutes, usually they come every 3 minutes between 3:30 and 4:30pm weekdays.

If they are fighter jets that are flying maneuvers then I am grateful. They might wake me up but I can sleep again knowing that they are doing their best to protect us. My sleep was interrupted last night by the sound of very loud engines. About a week or so ago I heard them for the first time and they were circling above my area. This was followed by helicopters circling above. I can only hope that it is military manuevers.

I forgot to mention that I live in Burke, Va.

So if you have ever been to Oceana / Norfolk, Jacksonville, Pensicola or San Fran, Manuevers is what they do. It was kind of neat to hear them albeit a little late!

Fighter jets screamed over my farm near Luray last night....complete with a nice supersonic boom.

Same around burke, around 12:15, it was incredibly loud and we saw something fly over. Couldn't tell what it was tho

The fellow who posted the Falcon Virgo is totally correct, and yes a press release is sent out to all media and law enforcement folks. Civil Air Patrol flies a small plane towards the MDW (Military District of Washington) and the Airforce uses them to test their interceptor role. I got a bud who is in CAP and takes off every time Falcon Virgo happens. As it is a regularly occurring exercise, it is kinda funny to watch the Internet spin up every time.
