VA Seat Belt Law is Stupid

Who the hell cares if you die or crack your head open because you are stupid enough not to wear your seat belt despite years of studies, etc. ?

In VA if you are the driver then you are required by law to wear your seat belt. Huh, why do we care about you? It's not illegal to operate a table saw without wearing protective glasses. Isn't this the same kind of thing??

If you are the passenger and if you are under 18 and get caught the driver gets the ticket - this is a good law because even if you are a dumbo and don't wear your belt at least you get tagged for endangering someone else.

If you are the passenger and are over 18 then you get the ticket for not wearing your belt. This is a dumb law because again who cares about you?

Ok, well if Jesus wasn't wearing a seat belt and he died then everybody would pray to him.

Insurance companies lobbied the federal government and the fed threatened to with-hold federal highway dollars if the states didn't change their rules. Just another silent impingement upon states rights.

How are you going to steer your vehicle when you get thrown out of the drivers seat in a crash? I'm pretty sure without anyone steering the vehicle there's a good chance you could run down some pedestrians that would otherwise be spared.

Most fatal accidents involve more than one car. Most people do not want to feel responsible for the death of the person in the other car. When you do not wear a seat belt, your chances of dying in an accident go way up. Basically, seat belt laws are there to protect the people who are too stupid to protect their own safety and also for those who do not want the guilt and legal hassle of dealing with having just killed some guy in a car accident.

Why should the tax payers pay for your injury? You choose not to wear the belt and get disabled in a wreck you can't work. You now are on disability, and medicare. I foot your bills through higher taxes because of your stupidity. Look I am all for government staying out of ones personal decisions as long as that person agrees to waive all rights of government assistance due to their negligence.

Once I was in a crash and seat belt saved me. (it was a roll-over) I have kids and a husband I love and always wear my seat belt. Why take the chance?

Its just another ploy for da man to keep us down! I say we rip our seatbelts out of our cars, (wait-this is NOVA. I mean SUV's) and march on DC protesting the constitutional right of going seatbeltless. Fuck you AAA, you can't keep me down! It is my right to have my brains splattered all over I-95 after I go through my windshield. And if I live, it is my right to have you feed me applesauce and wipe my ass until I die.

Fucktards.

Driving isn't a right it's a privilege. There are all sorts of things you have to do to be allowed to drive. You don't have to wear seatbelts on the bus I suggest this to you as an alternative.

If you're in the position that you will be thrown out of a vehicle in a crash, the car is either already hit a tree or some other stationary object, thus no longer in motion, or flipping in the air meaning that the wheels that you would control with your steering wheel will no longer have an effect on the trajectory of the vehicle. So, no difference.

Question for you armchair attorneys: AFAIK, Virginia's seatbelt infraction is a secondary one, where you have to be pulled over for another violation first before they can administer a ticket for lack of seatbelt use (not including under 18 year olds). How does the Va. click-it-or-ticket program work with this still under effect?

When you get pulled over for your tint, that's when you get written for your seatbelt.

Secondary offense per VA law.
