Update from Fairfax County Republican Committee

Many of you have asked me for an update of the status of the election for Congress in the 11th. Here is what I know as of 11:00 AM Friday, November 5th:

1. No winner has been declared in the 11th Congressional District Election, which remains one of the closest elections in the country. Three days after the closing of the polls, the difference in votes for Keith Fimian and Gerald Connolly is less than 1,000 votes out of over 220,000 cast in the election-well within the margin for a recount in Virginia.

2. Right now, each locality in the 11th Congressional District is winding up a post-election canvass, including counting provisional ballots. The canvass is a legal process in which local officials literally reconstruct the results of the election one voting machine and one precinct at a time, to ensure that all votes validly cast in the election are counted fairly and accurately. Once the local canvass is finished, including provisional ballots, the local officials will send the election returns to Richmond for further review by state election officials, who will certify the official results of the election later this month.

3. The canvass is a public process, and our observers have been monitoring it since the minute it began.

4. There are several developments in the Fimian - Connolly race that may call into question the accuracy of the current vote totals.

Here are the issues that are being looked at:

ï‚· In Fairfax County, the voting machines failed to register votes from over 800 ballots, including 106 in the Sideburn precinct alone. (Keith Fimian won that precinct 58% - 40%.) In Prince William County, the machines failed to register votes on more than 200 additional ballots.

ï‚· In several precincts, there were actually more votes than voters. That is, voting machines reported a higher number of votes than the number of voters marked on the pollbooks as having voted in the election.

ï‚· As of Election Day, there were over 1,150 absentee ballots that had been mailed out to military and other overseas voters but had yet to be received back in the 11th Congressional District.

ï‚· We also understand that officials in Prince William County rejected over 280 absentee ballots, with another 200-300 absentee ballots being rejected in Fairfax County.

So the process is unfolding as set forth in the law and these are some of the questions that are being considered at this time.

Way to position yourselves as having the election stolen. Release the lawyers!

Too bad there are no hanging chads, it would be fun to see the lawyers unargue their points they made in the 2000 Presidential election.

Meanwhile, I'll go get some popcorn, this should be interesting to watch these guys pull every tactic and trick they can.

These are always the same "hold on there is still hope" talking points every party gives once they lose a close elections. It is over, Connolly won, I am not holing my breath.

Was anybody else surprised that the Conman declared victory on election night anyway?

Not as suprised as I was when I saw the interview where Fimian said that the VT tragedy would not have happened if one of the students had been allowed to carry a gun on campus legally. Cause when I head out to class I want to make sure I have my:

books
pencils
notebook
laptop

oh yea, and my loaded 9mm strapped to my waist with an extra clip just in case I encounter more than one psychotically unhinged armed person hell bent on a killing spree in class today

Wait. Nope I actually wasnt suprised at all by that. Not from the party that thinks every American household should own no less than 1 firearm per resident....

No, I wasn't. The again, he's spewed enough shait out of his mouth each time he opens it, it would only seem fitting that he'd ASSume that he won the election.

For all of you who think Fimian should hang it up and conced, you should read about 2 years back into history. Read about the Senate race between Norm Coleman and Al Franken. Norm Coleman has 600+ votes ahead of Al on election night and even gave his victory speech. Al Franken, being a sorry-ass losing Democrat took up the offer on the recount with plenty of lawyers and about 6 months later beat Norm Coleman by over 300+ votes.

Good thing you don't live in Texas. For each office building that you go into, there are signs as you get off the elevators that weapons are not permitted beyond that point. To me, it seems like 90% of the population down there might be "packing heat".

Whoever wins will return to a Republican House. Republicans and Tea Partiers start looking towards the 2012 election. Thanks for the keeping us updated OP.

I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!
