Could this be related to the high power rifle shots to windows at the USMC museum and later to the Pentagon? Somebody has a grudge?

The FBI tied the Pentagon and Quantico shootings to the same rifle. The FBI also opened an investigation into the "one that occurred overnight at the Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Chantilly, Va."

Subject: FBI Opens Investigation into Shootings in Northern Virginia

**************************** PRESS RELEASE **************************

FBI OPENS INVESTIGATION INTO THREE SHOOTINGS IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA

WASHINGTON—The FBI announced today that it has opened an investigation into three shootings that have occurred in Northern Virginia since Oct. 17, 2010.

Investigative evidence has confirmed that shots fired at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Va., and the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., involved a single weapon. Ballistics testing is underway for an overnight shooting that took place on Oct. 25 or Oct. 26 at the Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Chantilly, Va.

The incident at the National Museum of the Marine Corps took place during the early morning hours on Oct. 17, 2010. A similar incident occurred at approximately 5 a.m. on Oct. 19, 2010, at the Pentagon after officers reported audible shots fired in the vicinity of the Pentagon’s south parking lot, which faces I-395.

No further information, including a potential weapon used or the caliber of the ammunition, will be released at this time to preserve the integrity of investigative efforts.

The FBI’s Washington Field Office Joint Terrorism Task Force (WFO JTTF) provides critical incident response in the National Capital Region for both federal investigations and the request of any law enforcement agency. Prince William County Police Department, Fairfax County Police Department and the Pentagon Force Protection Agency are represented on the 35 agency WFO JTTF.

Law enforcement agencies involved are asking that anyone who may have seen a suspicious vehicle or a person with any information to contact Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477 or text “TIP187†plus your message to CRIMES/274637.

the area around the recruiting center is sectioned off now and there are officers (plain-clothes too) walking the grounds searching for evidence.

there are also some news crews, so it will prob be in the news soon.

not sure why the chopper is hovering though.

The helicopter hovering is News4 they are showing pictures live every now and then.

The sniper needs a new site. The whole window and he barely hits it. I wonder if he was driving by when he took the shots.

Now that I think about it. How the hell would you fire a high powered rifle if you were driving by?

Another rumor is that the barber shop is owned by the man who last week killed his wife in a domestic dispute (a big one apparently) in a house just a few blocks up Centreville Rd. Perhaps some sort of retaliation from the wife's family, but hit the wrong window?

Pentagon to Marine Museum to Chantilly Strip mall doesn't make any sense. Few people even know it is there.

That would not explain why he shot at the Pentagon and the Marine Corps museum.

We don't know for sure the ballistics match, but the coincedence makes it difficult to believe they're not all the same individual.

I think this shooter is a copy cat of the DC sniper but doesn't want to kill anybody. He wants 15 minutes of fame. All of the attacks took place night so doesn't seem like he really wants strike terror into any place.

Maybe he has the weapon built into a vehicle. He drives by and takes pot shots. That's why the shots are not very accurate. All of the targets have been near major intersections of highways, so I'm guessing he is planning the attacks in advance.

Guessing he will strike next in MD near the beltway.

.223 caliber rifle = most likely an AR-15 variant. I would not call this a sniper.

In fact, didn't our main men The Malvo bros. use a Bushmaster m16-style gun dubbed a "sniper rifle"

"Sniper" is a sexy word for someone who shoots people from a distance with a rifle. The .223 cartridge is perfectly capable of killing people at 300 yards in the hands of a good rifleman, and that certainly qualifies as "from a distance".

Sure, you and I and others who know guns think of sniping as an 800+ yard acivity with a round of .30 caliber or better. But colloquially, let's not quibble.

For all we know he chose the round and gun because it's the American standard assault rifle. Who knows?

I say they simply have a bunch of armed Marines guarding the route. That'll put an end to this garbage.

Bushmaster is one of the lower end manufacturers of AR-15s. Some swear by them, others, especially the gun store owners I have talked to, say they cut corners in manufacturing quality.

"3rd shooting at military building linked
Maria Glod

Authorities have linked a shooting this week at a vacant Marine Corps recruiting office in Fairfax County to two other recent attacks on U.S. military buildings in Northern Virginia.

FBI officials said Thursday that ballistics tests linked bullets found at recruiting office on Oct. 26 with those recovered last week at the Pentagon and the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle.

In all three instances, the shootings occurred overnight or in the early morning hours. The shooting at the museum was discovered Oct. 17., and shots were fired at the Pentagon on Oct. 19.

Law enforcement officials declined to discuss the type of weapon used in the shootings or the caliber of ammunition, but they have said previously that they believe the rounds were fired using a high-velocity rifle."

Sniper is the marksman behind the weapon which can be any caliber down to a .22 the sniper craft is how well the shooter can hit a target without disclosing his/her location. Obviously the larger the caliber the further the range. Calling this whacko a sniper is a stretch, more like a drive-bye

I'm an extremely good marksman, but I wouldn't label myself a "sniper" either.

Was out that way thursday evening enjoying a meal and baseball game

Don't know dern thing about ballastics but looks like straight on shot. I trust they can gauge the distance at which the shot was fired. Like from across Metrotech in the Lowe's parking lot. I noticed in pictures the search was going on in the parking lot immediately in front of Marine recruitment office. But if the shot was fired late at night with no traffic could have been fired from Lowe's parking lot right?. Lowe's has lots of outside security cammeras . How long do businesses genrally keep recordings from their security cameras?
