The Home Depot on West Ox was 24/7 for about six months, but the labor costs and low revenue volume really killed them. Plus, if you happened to try shopping late, around 11:30, the sales associates were absolute morons. Not that the regular staff are the sharpest knives in the drawer, but unless you knew EXACTLY what you wanted you were screwed. Plus, if they ever had a problem with the one open POS register you were totally screwed since they had no idea how to get the thing working again.
On the plus side, the guy working in the custom millwork department made a mess of my window order and undercharged me by more than $4000. We were adding a large sunroom with lots of glass and none of the windows were a stock size. The computerized pricing system was down, so he had to do the calculations by hand using a telephone book-sized manual. The $8500 price seemed a lot less than the (non-written) quote from a week earlier, but the item list and sizes looked right so I signed the agreement and paid with my HD credit card. The next day I received a call from the department manager asking some questions about the order, confirming that I really wanted these items before he sent it in for fabrication. I got the sense that he was trying to get me to make a change or cancel so that he could rewrite the order, but I would not bite. I asked if there was a problem and he told me that I got a great deal and he would need to do some retraining with his staff.
Everything arrived as promised three weeks later without a single problem, but I think that this type of incident happened too often in the 24/7 stores.
