Sprint 4G around town?
Posted by: Phone Shopper ()

So my contract w/ Verizon is ending soon, and my employer has a corporate discount agreement with Sprint, so I'm looking to jump ship to them soon. Got my eyes on the EVO and the Epic, both '4G' phones....a call to a local Sprint store says they've got 4G active in the Northern Virginia area already, but their coverage map on their website says differently. NOVA peeps who have Sprint, I ask: do you get any 4G coverage with your EVO/Epic?

Look at clear 4G coverage, is the same 4G network same as SPRINT 4G.

Yes, 4G is active here (Generally, NoVa is among the first locations to get the latest and greatest in terms of telecommunications technology). Dika-dika is spot on with his information as well.

I have a 4g evo with Sprint. Yes, sometimes it is spotty in some areas but with their "everything" plan I will stick with it. I love my EVO

I love my EVO as well.

4G coverage is garbage, though. They use the same towers used for other technologies, but 4G (ClearWire/WiMax) range is not as good.

You should hold out until the holiday season. Big changes are coming to Verizon

Verizon claims that they'll have 4G coverage in "the DC market" by the end of the year. They don't exactly define "the DC market," but I'd like to think that it includes Fairfax County. http://phones.verizonwireless.com/4g/

Neither are 4G, you are being lied to. Those are all 3G-class speeds.

It's still a 4th Generation technology. LTE and WiMax are different technologies in general from CDMA EVDO RevA and UMTS. So...whatever.

it could be the 30th generation but it doesnt mean it qualifies for the 4G classification which is an international standard.

I have an evo... great wimax coverage in Reston, and most places i go in Fairfax county. I work in DC, cannot get a signal inside my office (get a evdo 3g signal), but can pick up the wimax outside the building.

overall, the wimax connection is great, very fast. Love the evo, its pretty big, but you get used to it quickly. Wouldn't trade the phone for any other.

And people who complain about sprint customer service, not sure where that comes from. I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

What's nice is the fact that your 'evo' is a cheap plasticy piece of
junk, that is just now getting around to catching up with the iPhone.
Bet you really salivated over those iPhone 2G commercials-*SEVEN YEARS AGO* !

I have been enjoying the latest in technology from Apple for YEARS
and YEARS now, and you are just enthralled by your recently released 'evo4'.

So how about a nice game of follow the leader, anybody ?
