Walmart bicycles are absolute garbage. They are a waste of money and will be a source of endless frustration for anyone who buys one. A low end mass market bicycle will be a constant headache. Walmart bikes are even worse than an East German Trabant in the automobile world.

They use junky low end derailleurs and shifters that are difficult if not impossible to get adjusted properly, and they do not stay adjusted.

Shimano makes about 7 or 8 tiers or levels of road bike group sets (derailleurs, shifters, etc.) Dura Ace is the top end and Ultegra is second place, also very good. The "105" is below ultegra and below that tiaga is the arguably the lowest tier worth having. The bottom tiers sora and claris are pretty close to junk. Handgrip twist shifters tend to get gummy, and the cheap ones even more so.

A decent entry level bike can be had for couple thousand dollars. Bike service is not cheap. It can be done yourself but requires some knowledge and special tools.
