I just drove through a DUI Checkpoint

FCPD is setting up a DUI checkpoint, they were almost ready to go when I drove through a few minutes ago. I think the checkpoints usually begin at 11pm. I'm not going to say where it was since I don't want to help any drunks avoid the checkpoint. Be safe tonight!

Sobriety Checkpoint Results
In Sully Police District
Fairfax County police officers from around the county conducted a sobriety checkpoint to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers on Saturday, October 9 from 11:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. Sunday. All motorists were stopped and drivers were evaluated to assure that their abilities to drive had not been impaired by alcohol or drugs.
Approximately 799 motorists were stopped on Lee Highway near the intersection of Bradley Road. Two arrests were made for DWI and one summons was issued for one miscellaneous traffic offense.

When I was the Chairman of Fairfax county, it was always easy for me to avoid these checkpoints. I had a police scanner in my county vehicle, so I knew which roads to avoid. Hardly ever a problem. Now, in Congress, I don't have the scanner anymore and thing are a bit harder. There are nights when I'll just head back over to my office and crash on the couch. I just give the wife a good night call and set my alarm before the staffers get into the office. Then, I just head to the gym for a quick workout and shower there. No problems with DUIs for me - anymore.

There are a ton of twitter FFX roadblock threads. The tweets start the minute a roadblocks go up. Usually the first person to see the roadblock being setup tweets. Just subscribe to one of the treads and you'll know where every roadblock is. Half of the Fairfax bar crowd does.
Roadblocks are old news and very inefficient. The minute they go up everybody in the immediate area knows it. I've been at plenty of bars and every time there is roadblock somebody is always spreading the word in the bar where they are and on how to get around them.

From what I understand they have to do some of them for federal highway money but that could just be a rumor. They are without a doubt mostly for show, though. It probably also looks better to voters to see them out there, they just aren't often inclined to check how effective they are. It's been proven that targeted patrolling of police gets more drunk drivers.

targeted patrol... u mean the sobs that hide in parking lots around metrotech and willard road and pull people for changing lanes without using signal lights at 12-1 am when there is no traffic... that's just as bad as the road blocks, because it is not fair since they don't consistently pull people for the same violations at all hours and days of the week..
