UPDATE – Serial Burglar Strikes Mason Police District
During the overnight hours of Thursday, September 30 into the early morning hours of Friday, October 1, three additional homes were burglarized and an attempt was made at another home in the Fairfax area. In each of the three burglaries, entry was made through unlocked or open doors. A screen was cut in the attempted burglary.
There are now 87 incidents related to this serial burglar. Of those, 57 are burglaries or attempted burglaries. The remaining 30 incidents are larcenies from vehicles, suspicious persons and suspicious noise complaints. The numbers continue to remain fluid and change daily as reports are investigated.
Police continue to urge residents throughout the county to lock their doors and windows; this includes garage doors. Additional safety tips are provided below.

I couldn't believe it, but I found out the other day that one of my neighbor's never used to lock their doors until they heard of this current B&E spree. I can't imagine anyone leaving their homes unlocked around here.

It would be nice if the fairfax police would give us some sort of sketch or description of what to look out for. I saw in another thread here http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read/2/415547/421054.html someone had a description of their car. Come on FU we can catch these kids! Imagine how bad it would look for the police if a bunch of rag-tag kids caught their serial robbers.

We often left a door unlocked for our teenage daughters and most of the year you will find a window in our sunroom open for cross-ventilation. Our primary deterrent has always been our dogs who are very good at sounding an intruder alert when someone comes in late at night, even if it is a family member.
In addition, we have enough lights on motion sensors around our property that I don't know that a burglar would want to be wandering around. The light near our garage is roughly the brightness of a small sun and illuminates the driveway and most of the front yard out to the street. We have similar illumination in the backyard as well. Probably not a perfect solution overall, but enough to keep someone like this moving on to another house.

The weird car I saw last night casing Fairfax/Oakton was a white sedan, larger than a camry, perhaps an older camry or avalon. Maybe even a Lumina like the other thread mentioned, but definitely white.

Police said that one of the houses broken into had video surveillance, but they can't make out the face. It's possible that he's wearing a mask. His MO is that he usually looks into the windows first to see if there's a visible purse or wallet, and if so, then tries the doors and windows and usually finds one that's unlocked. He's in and out of the house very quickly, and has even set off alarms in a few cases, but that hasn't stopped him. In a couple of cases, he's used a crow bar to pry open a door or window, but the cops said that 85% of the time he enters through an unlocked door/window, or he gets the garage remote from the car in the driveway and gets in the house that way.

Purchase a gun for safety. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
Stick with 9mm caliber handgun and up. Hollow Points are a must.
Remington Shotguns go for about $220+ and a decent handgun will run you around $400+
Claymores are Land mines are optional but are perfect for those around your property.
Make sure all your windows and doors are closed and locked.
Garage doors should also be locked... Some house's have silent doors that slide up without a sound. Very dangerous.
Pepper Spray can be a deterrent but it can also affect you and your family, home, pets, etc... The one thing you want to have in your hand is any sort of gun. Even the cocking of a shotgun or a magazine load would give your intruder second thoughts.
You can buy a gun in VA as long as you are not a felon and you are over 21.
Thats it. No license required. Nothing. There will be a background check from the FBI to check your background but remember, not a felon = approved.
This guy is gonna get robbed of his ass virginity once he gets caught so just wait... Until than, *Cocks Gun*, I'll be waiting...

Correction to Trap Houses post, you do not have to be 21 to buy a rifle or shotgun, that law applies to handguns only. I personally went with the Mossberg 590A, it holds 8 +1, not that 6 +1 is not enough but for a few extra bucks I like the higher capacity, it also came with a full stock and a pistol grip.

I don't stop to ask people who have broken into my home while I'm there to what degree they were planning on harming me, nor am I waiting for them to show me their weapon. I would simply and immediately protect myself, using all available force. And I'm never more than 3 feet away from a gun at any time (home or elsewhere).

I don't stop to ask people who have broken into my home while I'm there to what degree they were planning on harming me, nor am I waiting for them to show me their weapon. I would simply and immediately protect myself, using all available force. And I'm never more than 3 feet away from a gun at any time (home or elsewhere).

I live near fairfax circle on circle woods drive and 10 days ago i had my passenger side window busted in and my iPod stolen out of my glove compartment. The guy also took my airbag and my old registration papers...
Unfortunately it was raining all night and so no finger prints were found because it was all wet and washed away. Hopefully he is caught soon! I want my deductible back!

Police officers went door-to-door notifying residents in the Hunter Mill Road area of a burglary, and an attempted burglary, that occurred in their neighborhood this morning. Police responded to a report in the 1800 block of Horseback Trail around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12. The resident stated that cash was removed from her purse overnight. Following a neighborhood canvas, officers determined a burglar(s) had attempted to enter at least one other home.
Mason District police officers also canvassed the Mantua area neighborhood on Thursday, October 7 and received two reports of additional burglary attempts and one larceny from a vehicle. Detectives believe these crimes may have occurred in connection with similar incidents that took place Friday, October 1.
Police continue to ask the public to lock their doors, secure their valuables and get updated information on the Police Department Website at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police.

He seems pretty smart so far at 90+ with no descriptions. Police were on the scene at one burglary with in 7 minutes and didn't catch him.
What I don't get is how this guy can sneak around without looking suspicious or there's no description of a vehicle.

I also have a mossberg 500 under my bed with Hornady TAP shells and a sig 229 in .357 sig with some golden sabre hollows for good measure. Even if he was breaking in I would call the cops and only use them if I felt my life was in danger or he threatened me. Personal property is not worth life and limb and in this state without a castle doctrine I wouldn't take the chance.

Yeah, it really is odd as well. I'm always noticing suspicious people and/or vehicles whenever they're around here, and they stick out like a sore thumb. Are people really so oblivious, or is this guy just so damn good? Eventually he'll be caught, even if it's for something unrelated, but in the meantime....
