Costco has the best combo of prices and return policy if needed.

If you are looking for cheap, the televisions at Wal Mart are tough to beat on price. Vizio is not a top brand though...

I have bought three of my last sets at Belmont TV (whatever you want, pick Belmont) www.belmonttv.com

That said, after New Year's, I (reluctantly) bought my last TV at Best Buy (due to the deep, deep discounts).

I hope this helps!

Walmart does not sell the same TVs that are sold elsewhere - they're often stripped down versions of the same models, though. It was in the news recently, and you can probably find the detailed information if you Google it.

Do you really need a new TV right now? If so, HH Gregg still has a sale, but it sounds like you are not going to have much time to comparison shop. Personally, I think that Costco is the way to go since you can buy it today, watch it for a week or two and then return it with no restocking fee if you find something in the interim that you like better.

If you can wait, the best time to buy a TV is right after the Superbowl. There are so many open box deals. Basically, people buy a TV for the game and then return it a few days later.

While my advice to buy from Belmont may have been used by the OP, I also thought I would chime back in and suggest Craigslist.

While you could probably find a better variety of TVs around a holiday (like Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, etc.), you might find some on there now...

Anyways, just a thought

I copied this from one of the product descriptions from the Belmont site. I don't understand what it means. Any help?

What is it with TVs nowadays? Do they not last very long? I know people that buy a new TV every year or two, what the fuck's with that?

My TVs are all CRTs and the newest one is about 15 years old. The oldest is from 1985. They all work great.

The new ones I see in stores look pretty nifty but I ain't buying one until I have to. I like those $0.00 balances on my credit cards.

Plus, shit in high-def is still shit.

I'm with you, say. Maybe that's why I don't know what all those terms and numbers mean. It could also mean I'm clueless when it comes to electronics.

  • TruMotion 120Hz -- This means the TV is powered by Sony's TruMotion processor, operating at a speed of 120 hertz

  • Full HD -- This means that the TV gives you full access to all HD content from your cable company, for free. Cox or Comcast might try to tell you that you have to pay for HBO and Showtime HD, but they do this because most people don't know any better and will pay up. Stick to your guns and they'll eventually cave. Threaten their safety if you have to.

  • 1080p -- This is the price of the TV: 1,080 British pence, or at the current exchange rate, about $17. British TVs ("tellies") are much cheaper than American ones because the cost is partially subsidized ("subsidised") through a TV license fee that all Britons must pay.

Unfortunately, British TVs are incompatible with North American programming, so this TV can only show old James Bond movies or shows like Benny Hill, Top Gear or That's Me Bum. Though it should be noted that some have had success watching Australian programs ("programmes") since their accents are closer to British ones than American ones.

I'M A FIVE-STAR MAN!!

Anything built nowadays is crap. I got a 55" LCD Sony Wega that is pretty much shit. Evidentially this model (2003 edition) started having problems with some component that made the TV have blue blobs/streaks/clouds in the picture. All my NFL games look like it's on the Smurf Turf and actors look like Mr. Freeze. It costs more to replace the component (~$1,200) than to get a new TV and of course Sony won't cover it or even admit there is a problem. But that's just the crap TV that nobody really watches unless the newer TV in the basement is occupied.

There's a Mexican selling TV's from a step van in a shopping center parking lot in Manassas Park off route 28 full of 52"+ Samsung and Sony BRAVIA 1080p LCD's. I would imagine they would be worth checking out.

Or..you could just roll his tacomonkey ass and have your choice, for free.

Amazon.Com and Frys.Com will beat best buy by hundreds guaranteed. They will also ship to your house for free in most instances, and you will pay no tax.

If you actually have the money for this TV, and am not putting it on layaway credit, I strongly suggest you check out Craigslist for some pretty good deals, but TV's depreciate so quickly that most people can't fathom losing half the value of their tv in a year.

Best Buy will have it's occassional good deal. I believe there was a 42" Plasma 720p on sale a month ago for $399.99.

If you absolutely must get a TV that night, which was 3 days ago, I would go to wal mart and pick up a vizio that's in the middle of the walking aisles. They had a nice package for a 46" LED TV with a Blu-Ray Player for $999.99 the other night.

Anyone considering buying a new television, you might want to hold off on buying anything for a few months yet. The cost of large flat-screen televisions is supposed to TUMBLE pretty soon. Read this article from CNN Money before you drop any hard earned cash.

Let's be realistic here. The difference will probably be a couple (as in 2) hundred at most for a larger one. For this guy who was freaking out that he didn't have a TV for the game in 1 hour, I doubt he will want to wait a couple of months when half the football season is over. I paid 1400 bucks for my tv a year and half ago, and it's probably worth about 700-800 now, but it was honestly worth every penny. Why get a big screen if you can't watch football?

It was in the news that an overstock of flat screens will force retailers to lower prices in time for Black Friday. A 32 inch TV can be had for under $400.

I bought a 50" plasma Panasonic TV on AMAZON. No sales tax, free shipping, and free setup. $699. Took about a week. Great TV for watching the Deadskins lose every week.
