Accident on Pleasant Valley in VA Run
Posted by: Rubbernecker ()
Date: September 25, 2010 10:19PM

Shitload of sirens and a chopper buzzing around. Was painting and kept losing the wet edge to go outside and look.

Heard it was a pedestrian hit. Anyone know? Inquiring minds want to know.

I heard a 10th grader was sitting in the road. Sounds like a very sad incident.

An 11th grader was sitting on the road ... apparently he got in some sort of trouble at the WMZQ concert and sat on the road and was hit by a car.

Pleasant Valley is blocked off from Martins Hundred all the way to Braddock I believe.

Channel 4 reported the accident was at Pleasant Valley and Smithhaven. Life threatening injuries. Sounds tragic for not only the kid hit, but the poor driver who hit the kid.

How is it tragic for the driver? He/she hit a child
wether or not it was sitting OR shitting in the road.

Alright, Bo Rupp is this kid's name, and is now in the ER, with reported brain swelling and internal bleeding.

The full story:

Bo Rupp, 16, got completely wasted at the Sugarland concert at Jiffy Lube Live (Formerly the Nissan Pavilion), and was kicked out. When he got home from the concert, and his parents got wind of the situation, Bo and them got into a huge fight. This led Bo to walk into the street and lie down, where he was subsequently run over.

Reports say the driver of the car stayed on the scene, and Bo was airlifted to a nearby hospital, being treated for brain swelling and internal bleeding

I'll keep you posted on any updates.

they were new to the area and didn't know the road.

Okay, new driver to the area or not, they had their
headlights on right? Well then there is NO EXCUSE
for running anything over especially when it is
right there infront of you, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.

0% sympathy for the driver.

The accident the driver had was OBVIOUSLY a result of
NOT PAYING GOOD ENOUGH ATTENTION.

What you are saying is ignorant. It is a sad situation but you can't sit and blame the driver... they're probably going through hell right now and have to live with it. They hit him accidentally obviously... its not like they would do something like that on purpose so you have no reason to blame them. Who are you to judge?

You are right, who am I to judge? Maybe that's why
everything you have read is my opinion, and that might
be why I do not own a gavel or a robe that resembles
a dress. But don't worry, the driver will get his day
infront of one of those homos.

I was out for a walk nearby when I heard the helicopter. It's a sad, sad situation and I hope the boy pulls though.

@troll The driver may have been speeding (people fly down Pleasant Valley way too fast sometimes 45-55 MPH), but that said, even at 35MPH it would have been hard to stop. The road is poorly lit and very dark and even with highbeams on, you can't see that far ahead due to a very slight rise and fall in the road. I've come across objects in the road here and you don't see them unless you are right on top of them. What's to say this driver didn't slam on the breaks and try to avoid him (even if the car was only going 10 MPH, it would have severely hurt a human being). The SUV I saw last night in the middle of the accident was at a weird angle like it skidded. I've never hit anything, but all it takes is a split second of looking down at your speedometer or a car coming at you with brights on so you can't see to not stop fast enough.

I am not saying the driver isn't at fault, I don't know that. But every case I've ever heard of where a pedestrian crosses a road at night,in the middle of the road (like where this happened) and the driver stops to give aid, the driver is usually not charged with any crime.

Again, I hope the boy pulls though and I also hope they do something about Pleasant Valley Road so that it is better lit and discourages speeding.

The police need some assistance in their investigation of the incident. You three are asked to report to Pleasant Valley Rd this evening to assist in recreating the scene. Each of you will lay in the road and I have offered (actually I won the raffle since so many wanted to drive over you) to drive a large SUV over you while police determine how this could happen. See you tonight :-) BTW, I'll be driving a large hummer

For anyone that lives in Virginia Run you should know that there are streetlights pretty much right about where the accident happened.

And is Bo alive? Because on channel 9 and channel 4 news they both reported him to be dead.

Ah, I was thinking the area right after you turn off Lee Highway where it's really dark. I usually turn into the neighborhood at Blue Ridge and it's dark up until that point. I forgot about the lights near the tennis courts and such since I don't usually drive that far.

Regardless, the road is dangerous. Wasn't it last month a kid on a scooter was almost hit (the scooter got crushed?).

I can't find any news anywhere other than here. Are there links to the info from channel 9 and channel 4?

Yeah the backroad before you get to pleasent valley is really dangerous and pleasent valley is pretty dangerous espicially if you are speeding

But Idk I did not hear about the kid with the scooter.
And you can go on their websites and look for it but I saw it early this morning at about 1am on channel 9

I must not have searched right to find the story. I'll look again.

The kid on the scooter was in the little neighborhood monthly newsletter (The Virginia Runner). I think it was last month's issue but it may have been the month before. That kid was okay BTW. It was a reminder in the newsletter to slow down.

Country music kills again.
What do country fans do the best? Drink.

And then it leads to shit like this. Nice job, WMZQ. You must be proud. I heard you still aren't playing Dixie Chicks music (even though they're the only original act to come out of country since 1976).

I wish this kid all the best in getting better, but honestly things are going to suck for him for a long, long time.

Obviously any of you posting negative comments about the accident do not know Bo or his family. Neither of them deserve something like this. Bo is a great kid and his family are some of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I wish that people would use this primarily to post updates or information about what happened rather than making jokes like "Maybe he was dressed like a speedbump". This is not a joke and it is offensive to post anything like that on this website.
Bo is extremely loved and a lot of people are rooting for him. We all know how strong he is and are hoping he pulls through this.

Jokes are out of line, but in fairness the one party that really didn't deserve this is the driver. This was a confrontation between a kid with his drug/alcohol problems and his parents, and now someone else has to live with being the unwilling deliverer of the consequences. The kid, perhaps out of his mind due to intoxication but still with his own actions, placed himself in a place where even in that state he knew he would be seriously injured or killed. He perhaps didn't deserve it, but he did ask for it.

I feel for the kid and the family and hope he survives to "say no" another day, but let's not shoo away the reality that this is what choices to drink and take drugs lead to sometimes.

No, you're not Bo's mom. You are a typical "Vah Run" mom who has too much time on their hands and thrives on gossip and morbid events such as this. You, like many other pretentious VA Run mom's take great pleasure in being the first to know -- first to get involved and first to begin spreading rumors (I know, I have lived in Va Run for some 20 yrs now and those like you make me ill). You should be ashamed of yourself.

1. I don't live in Virginia Run
2. I'm not even a woman, so it kinda disproves your theory
3. I'm not gossiping, like i said earlier in this thread, I'm only posting things that are true
4. I'm a dear friend of the families and I've known Bo for years now.
So please don't make false judgements.

While you have several details correct, Bo was not lying in the street. That is horribly incorrect and is infact a vicious rumor that spread last night after the fight with his parents. It has since been cleared by the detectives and the driver. If you are a dear friend, you will correct this... now!

I have been to the hospital, I have seen Bo, please pray for him. We need a miracle.

well "#1 Source" may not be right about the laying down part, but the driver was speeding for a fact.

and in his/her defense, the report of him laying down was posted last night, over 12 hours ago, so a lot could have changed since then

I agree with Bill.

That was posted a while ago.
And i actually found the info helpful.

Anyways, for the person who said they couldnt imagine Bo drunk, unfortuantley its true. My friend went with Bo yesterday to Sugarland concert and he told me Bo had to leave because he was intoxicated. :(

how dare you number 1 source just lie like this stop spreading rumors and you are just spreading gossip thinking that you are bo's closed family friend/friend. please stop spreading rumors because this is real not a fake story so please just stop. we all love bo and dont want any false alarms and stuff. on the fan page "bo rupp get better" some one said that they saw his heart rate going up, which is fantastic but we are not sure. please pray for him

Well, there you have it. Bo's friend had him in German class, therefore, he would not drink. I "belive" it's too bad you didn't have him in your english class.

Exactly my point! You sound like a gossipy bitch! I bet you're a "dear friend". A dear friend would be at the hospital with the family providing them comfort rather than tweeting gossip.

A couple of questions:

1. Other than by admission of the driver, how does anyone here know for a fact that the driver was speeding?

2. If Bo was not laying down in the street, what was he doing in the street?

3. In talking with other individuals in the neighborhood there is a report that another car swerved to avoid Bo in the street and was turning around (presumably to see if there was something they could do to help him) when the other vehicle hit him. Does anyone know anything about this?

I did see the accident aftermath as the public safety folks were attending to Bo and the others at the scene. It was quite some time before the helicopter took off to bring Bo to the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Bo was in fact there as was his vehicle. The driver's family, some of them who were in the vehicle at the time of the accident, were also there and appeared to be shaken but otherwise ok.

Additionally, there were a couple of teenagers at the scene within the police lines that appeared to be very shaken.

I only know Bo and his family tangentially through youth sports but from all accounts he is a good son and friend. The family of the driver equally appear to be very good people.

This tragic accident will effect the lives of countless people and we all hope that Bo pulls through and is able to live a very productive life.

No doubt many parents will use this tragedy to teach their children about the perils of underage drinking, the importance of paying attention to traffic rules and your surroundings when driving and most of all, about making good choices and the consequences of making bad ones.

Lastly, I am certain that the only thing on the Rupp's minds right now is the well-being of their son. It is my earnest hope that once Bo is on the mend that they do not beat themselves up for the alleged fight they had with their son over the choices he made that night - as parents, we need to let our children know when they make mistakes so that they can learn from them. There is no way they could have imagined what would happen next.

Pray for and/or keep Bo and the Rupps in your thoughts.

First off, people should be less concerned about what happened. The important thing right now is that Bo is seriously injured and needs our prayers to give him strength to come home. Second, stop saying stuff about the incident if you don't know it for a fact. Here's what I KNOW:

1) Bo was intoxicated (does not mean he is a bad kid, means he made a mistake)
2) He left the concert with his parents
3) He got out of the car on Pleasant Valley and ran around the street
4) The driver was not speeding and it is a dark road
5) There is nothing the driver could have done to prevent the accident.
6) Bo is off life support now and is breathing on his own. (he has no brain activity and has internal bleeding)
7) The Rupps are praying for a miracle as we all should be. Its in Gods hands now so everyone pray

My thoughts and prayers are with the Rupp family.

You do realize that's exactly what Source #1 said, only the only thing he or she got wrong was the laying down part. Other than that it was pretty spot on

@facts;
It is impossible to breathe on his own and have no brain activity. Unless he is in a coma, there is no way he can breathe on his own and have no brain activity. Please, tell me your reference because, you've obviously been informed wrong.

actually it is possible. his central nervous system (brain) may not be working but his autonomic nervous system that controls his heart and respiratory rate is. they're two different things.. you can look it up. so i was obviously informed correctly.

For those of you on this site that seem to think this is a joke, you are sick and twisted. There is a young man in the hospital fighting for his life. He is a good kid, good student and great athlete. Our prayers are with this family at this time. Please be just a little respectful of those on this site that genuinely care. Please if you have nothing good to say........just go away!
