The OP didn't mention which brand but I get Maverick 100's at Costco
for $33.00 and some change including tax.

Sheetz! There are NONE in Fairfax (I think because of the Mantua oil spill incident years ago) but there are Sheetz conveniently located just over the Fairfax/Loudoun and Fairfax/Prince Williams lines.

The Sheetz just before South Riding on rt. 50 west past Chantilly has the cheapest cigarettes around. I just paid $36 for a carton of camels, $10 bucks cheaper than anywhere in Fairfax.

A lot of the Sheetz advertise "lowest cigarette prices allowed by law!"

People still smoke cigarettes? With all the publicly available information about the contents of and the side effects, it's hard to believe people still smoke cigarettes.

Wow.........

You people have no respect for another person's right to choose at all. Someone asks an innocent question about where to save some money on their addiction (which by the way, is their business not yours) and you freak out and force your personal opinion down their throat in a VERY rude and obscene manner. The last time I checked, it was perfectly legal and socially accepted to make an inquiry on a message board without that person having to be subjected to your unfortunate problem of having your head stuck so far up your ass that you believe everyone should see the world through your eyes. And if anyone just happens to not agree with your point of view than apparently we should all just commit suicide on your behalf because we are so misguided in our life ventures that there is just no point in living any longer.

Thank you for setting me straight and helping me to find the true meaning in life.

It is a known fact that those who smoke have mental issues. If smoking helps calm them down and allows them peace who are we to stop them. If they die sooner but happier that is their choice.

It's easy to look down on smokers. It's the kind of thing where you can look at someone you don't know, see them smoking, and say to yourself "What an idiot, I am better than they are". Same thing with fat people. People do this due to a need to reinforce their own beliefs of superiority as a result of deeply seeded feelings of inadequacy.

Obviously, not everyone who smokes, or is fat, is a complete idiot. However, it’s easy to think this way as it can make one feel better in the process.

A motorsickle?

Seriously though - can someone give me a decent explanation of why people are still starting to smoke these days? I mean, if you're 70 and have been doing it all your life, that's one thing. But if you started in the past 10 year, WTF? Just explain to me how the benefits to you outweigh the downsides (health, economic and social).

Yeah, motorsickle. I've been calling them that since Arlo Guthrie recorded the "Motorsickle Song" in 1968.

"I don't wanna a pickle, just wanna ride on my motorsickle....."

People my age would immediately think Arlo if they saw my other post. I forget that most people on this site are very young and have never heard of Arlo (or his pappy, Woody) Guthrie, the Vietnam War, or anything else of that era.

Sorry.

Well I'm 17, and considering how I've heard Alice's Restaurant played to death on the radio every Thanksgiving, how could I NOT know who Arlo Guthrie is and how that son of a bitch put an envelope at the bottom of a half ton pile of garbage.

I have no problem with wanting to shorten your life by smoking. Go for it. However, I do take issue with smokers polluting the air I breath and polluting the earth we all inhabit. Every time I'm at a stoplight all I have to do is look out the window and see the ground littered with used butts. I mean littered to the point you can't see the ground. And it really chaps my ass when I'm cruising along minding my own business and the selfish jackass in front of me decides to flick his/her half smoked butt out the window to ping off my car. Selfish ignorance.

Point being....wanna smoke? Fine. But why be a pig about it???

Shut it! Zip your Pie Hole! We don't care what you think. You sound as stupid and asinine as that dumb broad complaining about third-hand smoke on the GZ thread. What's next 4th hand smoke? 5th hand reach-around filtered in a can smoke?

Yes, smoking is bad. Everyone who smokes knows this but enjoys their puffing anyway. Just a fun aside...10% of smokers get lung cancer. Guess what, 10% of the population gets lung cancer. So smoke or not, you have the same chance as I do to get lung cancer. As for the smell; it might not be as bad as your ichthyological scented membrane.

Well, now that corporations have just about bought up all of the formerly family-owned tobacco farms in Virginia; now it's apparently safe to let the cat out of the bag that tobacco really does have health benefits such as a cure for the ebola virus (which is also suspiciously making the news as of late). Of course, don't go looking to Philip Morris to sell any one of you a cigarette made from organically grown tobacco; not to mention all of the toxic additives thrown in for good measure.

are mavericks grown and rolled right in VA ?

7-11 has same price as Giant and higher than costco.

my eperience is often they've given me fake or damaged cigarettes. i'll get one carton good, next chockes me like someoen is trying to kill me (i'm guessing foreign stale tobacco - or history channel says "it's legal" (not if i catch you) to put tobacco juice on paper and call it "real tobacco")

i have a collection of the last pack of a stale carton for last year or two, have at least 10

i think the foreigners at 7-11 are switching the real good VA cigarettes with foreign or paper copies

they go straight for control of farm lands, power, you know

I used to smoke, but switched to snus 2 1/2 years ago. Not the shitty stuff they sell in the US, but the genuine Swedish stuff. I actally enjoy it much more. I found it very easy to switch, and its much cheaper. Snus is so discreet that none of the judgmental assholes can ever even tell you're doing it. It delivers as much nicotine, but at a much more constant rate than cigarettes. Great variety of flavors. There's my pitch.

Summary: Looking for location in Northern VA with the best price on carton of Kool Milds in Blue Box.

Why? For someone I love. Do I smoke? No. Did I used to smoke? Yes? Why did you quit? A MAC Truck hit me at an intersection at 60 MPH (I run a red light). While in Fairfax Hospital for more than 30 days it occurred to me that rest of my remaining lung tissue on one side and my good lung didn't need any more smoke. It was an easy decision.

Not unlike other addictive behaviors, drinking alcohol habitually, eating to many sweets on a regular basis, not exercising coupled with many genetic predispositions, etc, smoking tobacco is by far the #1 societal culprit in the U.S. It will be interesting to see what the long-term effects, both to the user and secondary inhaler, of the popular legal use of pot will be. Are there any bad actors in that smoke that can harm our young children. Forget the older folks, the secondary smoke will probably give them a lift.

As long as tobacco use, in the form of cigarettes, remain legal to be consumed, then who am I to forcefully stop an adult from consuming. I can advise, cajole, warn and even locally regulate but I cannot force. If my addicted loved one decides to remain a smoker, then I stand by her/him. That person does not smoke in our home, does not smoke in our vehicles and only smokes in public designated areas. The person is not poor, does not throw away the butt on the ground and is conscious of those approaching.

I hope this person is able to stop someday.

Until then, I will not ridicule that person or anyone else who chooses to smoke.

Finally, back to the summary. Where can I get the best price?

While I guess I could rely upon Smoke-ems sophisticated statistical analysis, let me instead point to the American Lung Association which is perhaps a tad bit more credible. http://www.lung.org/lung-disease/lung-cancer/resources/facts-figures/lung-cancer-fact-sheet.html

Smoking contributes to 80 percent and 90 percent of lung cancer deaths in women and men, respectively. Men who smoke are 23 times more likely to develop lung cancer. Women are 13 times more likely, compared to never smokers

Lung cancer causes more deaths than the next three most common cancers combined (colon, breast and pancreatic). An estimated 159,260 Americans are expected to die from lung cancer in 2014, accounting for approximately 27 percent of all cancer deaths.

The National Institutes of Health estimate that cancer care cost the United States an overall $124.6 billion in 2010, $12.1 billion of which is due to lung cancer. Lost productivity due to early death from cancer lead to an additional $134.8 billion in 2005, $36.1 billion of which was due to lung cancer.

The lung cancer five-year survival rate (16.6%) is lower than many other leading cancer sites, such as the colon (64.2%), breast (89.2%) and prostate (99.2%).

--------------

My dad is one of the 160,000 Americans expected to die this year to lung cancer. His greatest regret in life is that he smoked. He finally quit 10 years ago when he helped take care of my aunt who died from lung cancer. He used to be an extremely active man and now he can't get out of his hospice bed (for ANY reason) and is now dependent upon morphine for the pain.

Why should anyone else care if you smoke? You're taking money away from me in increased taxes / insurance premiums to pay for your medical care while you die from cancer. You also expose me to cigarette smoke regardless of how careful you are.

If you really want to quit smoking, volunteer to help someone going through chemo and then when it doesn't work you can then help in hospice care. I guarantee you that seeing someone suffer will be sobering to you each time you think about taking a puff. Since lung cancer most often impacts those in their 60's and older their is a real need to assist caregivers who are often frail themselves.

Keep Puffing, you smelly morons. I enjoy my tobacco dividends each month, they've already paid for a boat and part of an airplane. Love the smokers, who else would be dumb enough to keep tossing their wallets at a money machine for us tobacco stockholders?

Not really. Smokers tend to die early and quick. It's the people who hang on forever and drag it out near end of life who run up those costs the most.

I don't think you realize how much medical care goes into that short period. It's not cheap. Any type of cancer, except untreated prostate cancer, is going to cost some big bucks.

Nothing compared to the old women who hang around the nursing home with Alzheimer's for 10 or 12 years getting hip, knee, eye, and whatever other replacements, then go into hospitalization for a few years until their kidneys finally fail. Nursing homes love them. They wipe out all of their own assets then burn Medicaid money until they're done.

I remember my first boss smoked like a chimney and collected Green Stamps. He said he was going to cash them in for a lung transplant.
