Anyone else hate these invasive Asian bastards? This is the time of year they start trying to get into your house to hibernate for winter.

I even had a few in my car this morning. Can. Not. Stand. Them.

edit by Cary: Merged the thread similar thread "These stink bugs are really pissing me off" into this one. May the subject lines and timestamps be your guide.

No problem with stink bugs, but I see ladybugs come in when the weather starts cooling. Those little guys can squeeze their bodies through any window.

The stink bug population exploded this year at my house. They're all over the screens, bushes and the like. I had a hell of a time with ants this year as well.

I like the stinkbugs, because they're so harmless. I have a snake in my garage if you want to complain about something, but I'm cool with that too (It's just a Garter snake).

I had a hell of a time with ants last year. I left a cover on my car when I traveled to Florida for a month, just as the year before. However, this time around a colony of ants found shelter under it, and they completely infested my car. I opened up the front doors, and there were thousands of ants and eggs lining the upper portion of the door frame. I wiped them off with poison, and I tried everything possible to kill them all off, including using two cans of fog spray all over the car, in all the cracks. The dry bait didn't work either. Finally, I used that liquid gel bait, and it killed them all off.

If you have a problem with ants, just sprinkle cinnamon wherever their trails lead in your house. It is an old home remedy and has never failed me.

You can't have much experience with them if you "like" stink bugs. Once they invade your home and you can't walk inside without 5 or six flying in with you get back to me.

Would you like that snake in your house? Would you like hundreds of snakes in your garage?

I have a 4 - 5 foot black snake that lives under my steps. I've caught him in the garage a few times. He's been spotted in the bushes, in my neighbor's bushes and whatnot. But there's not one complaint or evidence of mice or rodents.

Dude, it's not like it's a cobra or anything. I'm not that worried. He's lived there uneventfully for the last 3 years. Plus I used to own a snake, so I'm not going to piss my pants or anything. If he gets inside, maybe he'll eat our hamsters - those little bastards.

Of course if he gets inside and he is really a she and has babies...I'm completely fucked.

I think Warhawk would only have cause for alarm if he has a chihuahua or similar small dog. A grown man trying to evict a five-foot non-venomous snake shouldn't have too much difficulty.

Now, if it was a raccoon... Yeah. Fuck that.

Capture one, and bind it in plain view of all the other stink bugs. Slowly pull off its legs, wings, and antennae, until it begs for the sweet release of death in its tiny, little stink bug voice. Then burn it alive.

The others will get the message.

Here is my honest answer... I read this article a few years ago and have had success following the advice. Stink bugs that land on our house die within 12 hours.

Here is the article… http://www.bugspray.com/article/stinkbug.html

The best way to kill them is with Cypermethrin (I use a product called “Viperâ€). However, it doesn’t last very long, especially once it rains a few times. To make it last longer you need to add spreader sticker. This will allow the insecticide to stay on the house longer. Both of these can be found at the bugspray.com site I listed above.

Another option is to use a product called “Demand CS†which can be found here…

http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/demand-cs-p-46.html

I have never used it but it is reported to work and is suppose to last longer than Cypermethrin. Additionally, if they still find a way inside you will most likely want to dust the attic with deltamethrin dust. They come in via the soffits and can live in the attic all winter. Then they find a way into the living space. The deltamethrin dust lasts up to 6 months.

Hey, I have a question. What ever happened to those bug zapping electric things that everyone had in the 80's? They looked like neon latterns and you'd hear a distinctive ZAP everytime a bug hit the light. Are those still around? The light might attract stink bugs at night.

I can't call a bug that is unaffected by RAID and emits a odor when killed, harmless. Hmmm what else has come from Asia that has been a pest to us Americans, let me think........ beetles, avian bird flu, chinese drywall & stucco, oh yea and horrific drivers...... for these atrocities we give you credit cards, so you too can overcharge your continent to hell just like us.

Invasion of stink bugs has homeowners, farmers seeking relief

"This is the vanguard," said Mike Raupp, a University of Maryland entomologist and extension specialist. "I think this is going to be biblical this year," he said. "You're going to hear a collective wail in the Washington area, up through Frederick and Allegany counties, like you've never heard before. The [bug] populations are just through the ceiling."

The change in season, as days shorten and nighttime temperatures start to dip, is nature's call to the brown marmorated stink bug - pest extraordinaire - to leave its summer gorging grounds and seek refuge inside. What's happening now is a massive population shift from orchards, cornfields and gardens to suburban homes, office buildings and hotels - the urban U.S. equivalents of rocky outcroppings in the stink bug's native Asia.

I don't even worry about killing them, because they're harmless, and I don't have the same issues as the OP. If you really have a problem with them, call up the Orkin guy, and have him treat around your home (Just don't apply any chemicals in areas where pets might be, but the outside can still be done).

News on the repellent...

http://www.myfoxdfw.com/dpps/news/stink-bug-repellent-may-be-on-the-way-dpgoha-20101014-fc_10105583

(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - Scientists believe they have made progress in the fight against stink bugs.

The New York Times reported that a group of Japanese researchers have announced they have developed a stink bug repellent made from a common plant fungus. Their research has been published in the American Chemistry Society's Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Farmers, who complain the stink bugs are ruining their crops, have had little luck with conventional insecticides. The researchers, led by Tottori University agricultural chemist Hiromitsu Nakajima, announced they found a natural repellent to the bugs that is made from a fungus that grows on green foxtail plants.

An extract of the fungus repelled stink bugs in laboratory tests. A chemical in the extract is thought to be able to repel up to 90 percent of stink bugs.

USA Today said the green foxtail plant is a common weed in both Japan and the U.S.

The newspaper said the stink bug is a major agricultural pest in Japan, especially for rice plant growers. A press release from the American Chemical Society stated that the stink bugs have invaded homes and destroyed fruit and vegetable crops since arriving in the United States in about 1998.

The insect gets its name because of the smell it gives off when bothered or crushed. While not necessarily a threat to humans it is considered a nuisance and does smell.
