Does anyone know if the long white cameras on Pickett Road at the tank farm and at that new neighborhood (Shelly Krasnow or something like that) red light cameras or just traffic cameras? They don't look like the round traffic cameras at the intersection of Pickett and Lee Highway and Pickett and 236 that show up on Trafficland.

Has Fairfax City even started using the red light cameras again? I remember hearing last year that they were coming back. But I don't see the one at 123 and Eaton Place anymore. It had one of those big green boxes with the flash to light up your license plate at night.
Don't know if the long white cameras are just cameras or not.

If you are refering to the cameras mounted on the traffic light wire, those replace the ground mounted sensor for detecting traffic.

Just a reason to have cameras everywhere. Why would we
opt to get rid of simple magnetic car detection loops in
the ground THAT WORKED WELL, for expensive, faulty cameras
that don't even change the lights half the time because
they get knocked out of aim or the software fails to
recognise the presence of a car for some reason.

Yes, I'm referring to the cameras that sit above the lights. They are long and white. So those are sensors? Thank you for the information. I didn't realize that. They definitely look different from the ones that I know are cameras, but I just thought maybe they were a newer version of traffic camera.
I've also seen those little brown or black contraptions with two little things pointing out of them at some intersections. I've assumed those were the things that the fire engines use to make the light turn green for them. Those drive me nuts. While they are definitely a good thing, the light doesn't cycle back to where it was, it starts over and you basically end up sitting through two cycles of the light when the fire engines trigger them.
