Does keeping these folks in jail at this point in their lives make sense?

My grandfather worked at a prison back in the 40's and he said they used gas chambers I guess thats not economical.

It does NOT make sense, but euthenasia does.

I guess they should have thought about growing old in prison before they committed their crime. They'll die soon enough.

Thing is, our prisons are already horribly overcrowded and caring for these people costs us a TON of money.

Keeping someone in prison serves 3 functions:
1) Preventing them from ACTUALLY hurting anyone anymore.
2) Deterring THEM from doing whatever it is again.
3) Deterring OTHERS from doing whatever they did in the first place.

Which is served by having a crippled old person continue in prison?

All three. What do you think they're going to do when they get out? Get a job? They'll still be on the dole costing us a TON of money. Do the crime, do the time. Period.

I would've thought prison would've cost much more. $28,800 is also on the low side for a retirement facility. It must be way out in the sticks.

It costs upwards of 7K a month to put a person in a nursing home. These prisons are a bargain. Plus they train the younger prisoners for careers in nursing homes after they get out (if they get out). I read that article---the younger ones get paid .40 an hour to "work" in the nursing home prison. What a deal. If these criminals got out, we would have to pay for their nursing home care (Medicaid) and that would be a heck of a lot more expensive. In fact, maybe the nursing homes could employ some of these prisoners at .40 an hour and make it cheaper for all of us.

That is the base cost in Nova. I agree.

There is a cheap solution bullet to the head 9mm is very cheap. If you let an old convict out on the street they will just end up on wellfare prison is cheaper.

If you cannot stand doing the time, do not do the crime.

If you can't stand being in a nursing home, shoot yourself---use a cheap 9 mm.
