3,500 block of Portage Place. Shouldn't be hard to find with the picture.

The fire started around 1p.m. and was not completely distinguished until after 5:30p.m. No one was injured during the time of the explosion.

i was over there to see some of it, it was a real out of control fire. and there was some asshole there that kept yelling ethnic slurs at some of the fire fighters, he kind of looked like tommy lee, and he kept shouting "FAGS IN THE KITCHEN! FAGS IN THE KITCHEN!" right at them. next thing i know a cop had him in a full nelson and wrestled him into the back of a cruiser and hauled his ass off. he was acting like a real asshole, very confrontational.

friend of mine lives in the court where it occured, he said it was completely out of control. i drove by there earlier today, still about 5 or so news trucks there with their satellites up and going, and about 10 or so cop cars, fire marshalls, etc.

pretty funny what happens when ya make homemade fireworks :)

"Fag" is not an ethnic slur. It's a slur, but it's not ethnic.

Seems to me this guy is in for some serious felony charges, given that the Oklahoma City bombing and the Patriot Act have made owning this kind of shit a huge no, no.

What an idiot. Who would store explosives anywhere near where there may be sparks. If you take the correct precautions, it is not dangerous at all to make explosives.

none of those incidences or acts make owning what this guy had illegal. if it's illegal to have fertilizer and perhaps a couple of bags of it, then i think there are A LOT of people committing a felony. as of yet, he hasn't been charged with anything, and if he does - it will probably be for trying to make fireworks that would have been illegal had he successfully made them.

that's like saying i can't own 3 pistols and a shotgun because i could have used them for something other than home-protection and hunting. yes, this guy was making fireworks with some products ANYONE can buy, but owning them doesn't make it illegal - it's what someone does with those items and that act is what is illegal.

besides the fact you meant satellite dishes, the telescoping devices appear to be terrestrial radio wave based. besides the fact that satellite time is very expensive (especially for the bandwidth they need), there is a noticeable delay if the reporter and anchor converse.

"the more you know..." the better supervillian you can be.

Yes, thanks for the pics. You have to feel badly for the neighbors who had their quiet cul-de-sac taken over by all sorts of local, state and Federal officials.

no offense Gravis, but practically everyone else and myself reading these blogs could care less about the wikipedia, dictionary, or technical term for what the news is using to get their information back to the station so that we, the people, can see it on our t.v.'s and listen to it on our radios. i'm glad you know exactly what their using and that i did not go into great detail like you did. i'm applauding to you with a standing ovation, but i am merely a local neighbor from the area telling people what i saw, not giving a scientific interpretation to how the media uses (or what they use specifically for) their equipment, because no one CARES. go read popular science magazine and watch star trek, because this is not science / tech savvy related.

and p.s. - this isn't a crime mystery or batman comic book, so don't refer to me as a supervillain.

basically if it isn't on your lawn, then you can't do anything about it. they can be on the sidewalk, street, even the grass median between the two. they obviously cannot block your driveway or be on your driveway, but everything else goes! it stinks when you think about it, because if your household / property is media worthy, all you can do is close the blinds!

ugh... i hate when people call everything a blog. "if it's not a static page it's a blog!" so i guess time.gov is a blog too, great. fyi, this is called a forum.

secondly, many people do care about/use wikipedia. i do know some people like to know how everything works... just to know. please, dont speak for other people, they can speak for themselves.

the supervillain bit was a crack at the "the more you know..." ad campaign they used to run on NBC.

Okay....you're making fireworks or bombs or running a meth lab in your house....and you blow the fucking place up.

Does your insurance company pay the claim...or do they deny coverage, saying that such illegal activities are not covered perils?

gravis - please just shut your mouth and let people ask if they care! otherwise, like i said - keep with the star trek and geek information to yourself - like you said "they can speak for themselves" - so don't go blabbing information from wikipedia (which is not accurate / always true), because it seems like you enjoy being the "know it all" on blogs. oh im sorry, did i say blog and not forum like i'm supposed to say? no one cares what term i use for this internet webpage, whether it be blog, forum, long list of peoples' comments, etc.

great bit by the way, your sense of humor is worse than jerry seinfeld's acting skills.

why would people ask other people to find out if they care? :)

misinformation was posted, i was giving the correct information. how would you know it's misinformation if you didnt already know about it? if you knew about it would you informed those that were misinformed? that's the exact situation i was in. now, please keep in mind that you dont have to read any of my post and God forbid you actually learn something. if you dont like technology, perhaps you shouldnt use it. in short: no.

hey fucktard, i already stated i dont go get info from wikipedia.

> wikipedia (which is not accurate / always

i rarely use wikipedia because it's 100% third, fourth or even fifth source information. if you knew jackshit about me from my posts, you would know my aversion to wikipedia because it's almost always full of shit.

now you know more about me. :)

Anonymous, a quick Google of the Fairfax County Code and you can find this:

"Section 82-5-1. Parking prohibited in specified places.
(a) No person shall park a vehicle, except when necessary to avoid a conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or traffic-control device, in any of the following places:

(1) On a sidewalk;

(2) In front of, or within ten (10) feet to either side of, a public or private driveway;

(3) Within an intersection;

(4) Within fifteen (15) feet of a fire hydrant located on private or public property or within a fire lane as defined in Chapter 62 (Fire Protection), of the Code of the County of Fairfax;
. . . "

Perhaps #2 --> In front of, or within ten (10) feet to either side of, a public or private driveway My son got a citation when his car was parked closer than 16 feet from a private driveway, so it has loosened up a bit. [The neighbors complained about a noisy teen party and the FFX police came and gave tickets!!]

I know it's been a while, but...

It was a grey haired fire, and dressed impeccably.

By the way, not that it matters, I think you're funny, even if others don't. And yes, I care whether the news trucks have terrestrial antennas or satellite uplinks. Anybody who doesn't know the difference should just leave it at "news van" or if they're not sure what constitutes a "van" then just maybe "news truck" or even "news vehicle" And also by the way, you read Eccentric Orbits - The Iridium Story? Worthwhile read, if y'all are one 'o them Star Wars Trek kinda type nerds.
