is there a serious driving school around here? (want to be a better driver)

I've been driving for 20 years, but I want to be a better driver.

Is there a serious driving school around here? (like the Skip Barber Racing School, but I don't want to trave that far... only in local areas)

Again, I'm not in it to get points off or an insurance discount.
(never had a ticket or a claim in the last 20 years, so I don't
think I can get any more discounts)

Any info appreciated!

You might want to look into the BSR Driving school at Summit Point, WVa.

It is about 30 minutes north of Leesburg, VA.

Both of our daughters went through the Accident Avoidance course at BSR shortly after receiving their license and I have heard that the Friday at the Track is pretty good for adults. Not as comprehensive as Skip Barber, but probably the best thing that you are going to find locally. The BMW clubs (BMWCCA) sponsor a series aimed at teenagers, but I am not sure if they allow adults to participate.

BMWCCA also sponsors a highway safety school and a driver's school out at Summit Point. You have to be a member but you DON't have to have a BMW. Also, there are a lot of other driving/car clubs in the area that host similar events (Porsche club, Mustang club, etc.)

Another way to improve and have fun is Autocrossing. There are a lot of Autocross clubs/events in the area that set up coned courses in the various empty parking lots (e.g. FedEx Field) and let you run amuck. Costs are minimal (club fees and entrance fee) and you can find plenty of experienced Auto-Xer's that are happy to lend a hand if you show interest. The Auto-X tends to be at slower speeds than the track events but still offers PLENTY to learn before you move up to track events.
