Cars on fire? Does that mean Virginia Tech won? :)

I've never used this site before so I don't know what you mean by "scanners," but I just came back from the mall. One of the managers in the store I was in said that "Three cars had exploded" in one of the parking garages, but he didn't offer any other details.

It was the parking garage outside of California Pizza Kitchen. I'd parked near Macy's. I was hesitant to got get my car, but there wasn't any commotion in my garage, and I had no issues. I did drive by the other garage to see if I could see anything, and the entire garage was roped off, and they weren't letting anyone go in. Several fire trucks and police cars, but other than that, you couldn't see anything.

"Explosion" is relative, and for all we know, it could have been one car that caught on fire. I just found this site by looking for news on this in Google. Anybody have any other updates?

My wife's car was parked kitty corner to the third car behind it. We had to wait until 11pm to get the car out. The firefighters just stated that it was a car fire under investigation. Around 9pm a reporter had told me that someone mentioned to him about possible arson. Could this be related to the car fires recently in DC? The way things are around here with everything so 'hush hush', we will probably never know.....

I heard that the explosions were the result of overheated tires. That's the word from FCFD.

As for the fire itself, that's the mystery. They'll figure out whether it was accidental or arson, so no worries.

The last time I saw a car fire, somebody had lit-up a guy's BMW convertible next door to my friend's house. It was pretty intense, but it was also one hell of a bitch move by whoever did it.

EDIT: Actually, strike that. The last car fire I saw, was the the result of some lady running her vehicle straight into the gas line of an apartment complex. The entire corner of the three story building went up in flames too.

A car exploded in my old neighborhood about one or two years ago. Turns out that some college-aged kids had a vendetta against this other college-aged kid in the neighborhood, of course all over a girl. They set his fancy-ass sports car on fire around 5 in the morning, which resulted in a huge explosion that scared the hell out of the whole neighborhood. People were trying to move their cars away from the one on fire, there was a lot of collateral damage. Possibly the same neighborhood, ThePackLeader?

No way would an "overheated" tire cause a fire. In the first place, how would the tire overheat? Having just shredded through two sets of tires on race tracks this past month, none of the cars burnt to the ground.

Maybe this FCFD you referenced, was the Fairfax County Fib Dept.?

I call BS.

he didn't say the overheated tire caused the fire....he said it caused the "explosion", which is true.

Is it possible that the FIRE heated the tires and THEN the tires EXPLODED? Kinda sorta like he implied in his first message?

Would be nice to see an official statement on this...

I was actually there after the fact. Talked to a mall cop who said some guy pulled into the garage and his car was smoking. He pulled into a space and jumped out because he was scared. Naturally he parked right next to a whole bunch of other cars, so when his went up, they all went up. I'm pretty glad I parked somewhere else.

I'm glad that we simply walked around to the street from Nordstroms, and entered the garage from the street, walked up the ramp to our car and drove right out, unlike Miguel who stayed past 11pm.

Tysons corner shopping center managment company is very powerfull, the media would have a very hard time writing a negative article about the mall even if it was just a simple car fire

Yeah. What kind of influence can a mall management company exert on a paper?

I just saw the spot (and took a couple of pictures) this afternoon. As it stands, they think just a basic electrical fire (according to the Tysons's security guard who was supervising the tow truck trying to remove the burned out husks to get them to a flatbed outside the garage). The "explosions" were mostly likely just the tires blowing out. Pictures:

I think the "awnser" is it doesn't matter if it was in the paper, you couldn't read it anyway. So "their." Just sayin.

Dunno. But that doesn't mean you're right. Make the case for why you think a mall management company has any influence on the press. You made the claim; back it up.

Maybe it wasn't a news worthy story....maybe the police requested it not be publicized until further investigation. These things happen.

I have never heard of a "powerful" mall management. They lease store space and maintain the facilities, they aren't the mafia.

Then why do they have their own personal highly trained paramilitary force complete with multimodal transportation capabilities and various offensive and defensive weapons? You think you have an elite team of experts like that and you DON'T have influence over the media and other matters?

OOooh. Paramilitary force!?!? How do I get a job doing that?

Can you imagine Paul Blart with a sniper rifle? That's a cool job!
