Well, good thing then you were only charged with possession of mariguana. If it had been marijuana you would have been in trouble. Expect only an overnight stay in jail for mariguana.

Except, you can't be taken seriously by any judge unless you hire a defense attorney, because at even then their minds aren't holy unbiased because I"m pretty sure ThaT ThEy ArE CoNviCTS themselves. fucking criminals

don't fool yourself, they handle these types of charges for a livign and believe me it can get on your nerves and be pretty boring, so that's what you're looking at

Get a lawyer, do at least 24 hours community service, get letters of recommendation from five or so people, ask for continuance til you get a good judge/prosecutor.. I got charges dropped after a continuance, and later had charges expunged...clean record.

First things first, hire a good lawyer. Most good ones will charge you 2000 +... it's worth it. Next, stop smoking weed (if you are), and register for a drug abuse evaluation at a local clinic. This will probably cost you another 250-300 bucks. They will drug test you, give you some tests, an evaluation... and you need to make sure you convince them that you don't have a problem. They will write out a report that you'll have to give to your lawyer. Next, do as much community service as you can through a good organization like United Way. I would recommend 15-20 hours minimum. Talk to your lawyer, but he may want you to get character references from a pastor/teacher/some sort of commendable persson to show to the judge. Do all of these things with a good lawyer, and they will probably drop it completely - no disposition, probation, or anything. Make sure you stay out of trouble and good luck!

Lucky bastard, you're only 17? Very lucky. Even if you were an adult, though, on a first time Simple Pos. you'd most likely be eligible for a delayed disposition (Which is a fancy way of saying that if you stay out of trouble for six months or so, the charges will be dropped). It's only a one time thing however, so don't push it.
