does Fairfax County Police frequently issue tickets for window tint violation?

I'm not talking about making my windows so dark that nobody can see in or out.
The law is 35% rear and 50% front... what if I get it done with 35% tint on
all door windows plus the rear window?

Thanks!

(what if my car is registered in out-of-state? Maryland & DC, for example)

Does the FCPD enforce that law? Sure. Often, it provides probable cause to stop the vehicle, opening the door to check other details.

I was stopped once after being followed for close to 2 miles, specifically for tint. I had my windows "metered" and they were something like 33% which was fine for my front roll downs. I have a waiver and it is noted on my registration.

I hope this helps.

Yes they do. And they also pull people over for having an obscuring cover on your licence plate (it's against the law http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+46.2-716) and/or dirty license plates.

I think the real question is, do you want dark tint so much that you want to give the police an automatic excuse to pull you over?

Edit: Added law citation.

what if you have a waiver? That means you have a medical reason. I believe the vehicle should have a sticker indicating such, so that people with the waiver won't be pulled over. Ricers are ruining it for everyone else.

One thing, my friends, if you ever buy a car that the seller says has a tint waiver, make damn sure he/she gives you the DMV form proving that the shit has been peeled off!

It happened to me once....DMV "brands" the title of cars with the waiver, and you can't register the car until it has been removed. I didn't know that and couldn't find the asshole seller after the fact.

It was a major, expensive hassle!

Is it true SUVs can tint their front windows more in this state? I'm too tired/lazy to look it up now but I think I remember seeing that.

No, that is not true. You may have that confused with back glass which for multi-purpose vehicles, can be darker by code.

Front windows (roll downs) can be tinted to 50% by law, 35% with a valid waiver.

With a waiver, the windshield can be tinted as well, 5" or down to the AS-1 line to 35% or 70% for the entire front glass.

People who tint their windows, are either too ugly and don't want to be seen. Or have something to hide.

I was in traffic court last Tuesday and there were quite a few people there that day who had been charged with window tinting violations. I would say it's fairly common.
