(Driveway) Hot enough to fry an egg - or burn my back!

Wow - Hot enough to fry an egg for sure!

Changing my oil on my daily driver (car), I was underneath draining the old oil and ouch! The retained heat on the asphalt, was felt through my shirt like never before!

After finishing up and washing y hands, I took my soaked shirt off and my wife said my back was dark red on one side - OUCH!

I am not sure I have ever felt asphalt this hot! It reminded me of the old line, hot enough to fry an egg!

It wasn't that hot today, trust me, I eat eggs off my driveway all the time.

I was travel out West in the Painted Desert, NM and got a flat. I couldn't pull off the road because the sand was so deep so I had to change the tire on highway.

I got the car jacked up but the asphalt was so hot the jack slowly sank into the pavement. Luckily it slowly sank, I just barely got the spare on. It took me forever to get the jack stand out of the hole in the pavement.

Hmmm. A blanket or towel on the asphalt might have been in order. Is it hot out here, or are you just a dumbass?

Hey, thanks for your concern - must have been my thin t-shirt, as the driveway didn't feel that hot through my shorts...

Anyways, maybe I can just hire someone to change my oil next time ;~)

Thought about that (in hindsight) or maybe even an old blanket.

Ohh well, cooler weather is here now (still HUMID!) and my wife has given me the green-light to buy a service lift for the house. What a keeper!

What, a good old hydralic jack is not good enough for you? hell, i get by with 2 spare tire jacks and 2 pieces of firewood.

edit: but then agian i dont do much more than change the oil. Is it hard to replace an oxygen sensor?

The old ramps I use are fine. I built them from 2x12's two decades ago and they have plenty of service left in them. That said, I am getting older, and a lift would be a nice gift to myself ;-)

o2 sensors can be easy - if a line wrench won't get it to budge, a special socket with a slit for the wire to slide through (so the wrench can go over the socket) can be sourced.
