Posted by: peerless ()

Has anyone heard any predictions about the upcoming winter? I am pretty sure this summer has broken some records as did the winter, anyone hear anything about this coming winter?

First all the leaves will change color and fall off the trees and then it will be cold and snow a few times.

I predict it will be cool to cold with occasional periods below freezing, and precipitation levels ranging from below to above average.

NOAA predicted Armageddon and the return of Jesus. But due to the Separation of Church and State, they revised it to heavier than average precipitation.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

I hope it snows another 5 fucking feet. I hope FCPS goes code red for weeks on end. I hope Pat Collins gets hit by a car when he's standing front of the Wisconsin Avenue/Old Georgetown Road intersection while telling us all to stay home because there's 1/2 inches of snow on the ground.

Well, first its gonna get dark... real dark... clouds everywhere and no sunlight to be seen. As the dark weather gets colder, flying demons will fly to the heavens where they will clash with the angels. As the rage goes on wings will be cut, heads will be gone, bodies smashed, all to end up as Cold ash as it flutters to the ground... It's gonna snow, maybe a couple inches here and there. nothing much.

I bought a snow blower last winter. Because of that, it will never snow again around here. So, you can thank me.

Not sure how true it is but--- last year everyone was talking about how many acorns were on thier lawns and that is always a indicator of how bad a winter will be. I have not seen many of them in the trees or on the ground

look at the wooleybears, they're right most of the time. The longer the middle brown band, the milder and shorter the coming winter; the shorter the brown band, the longer and more severe winter will be.

When the hell do schools around here close for two inches of snow? I remember them making us go to school when we had three inches of solid ice before.

Lol, I don't agree with the Pat Collins statement, but the rest of what you said is in my dreams.

I think we'll have at least two good storms this Winter, but I'm not sure how much we'll get. I'd say maybe two feet total for the Winter if it's a solid one, with one foot being at least a given.

Check out AccuWeather's Joe Bastardi if you want an accurate long-term seasonal forecast. He had last Winter's forecast spot-on, all the way back in July of '09. His long-term forecasting abilities are very well acknowledged, and highly regarded.

Btw, if you haven't noticed lately, we're already beginning a rapid cool down across the the Lower 48 with regard to the Cold Fronts. The Lows the other night were in the 40's in the Upper Great Plains, and up in Central/Southern Alaska it's already dipping in to the 30's some nights. Our Highs will be in the 60's, 70's, and then Lower 80's throughout the next five days, but even on the warmest day, our Lows will still get into the 50's. I don't have any doubt that by Columbus Day Weekend we'll be seeing a few nights in the 40's already, and up around NY they might get close to freezing. If this all happens accordingly, then we're setting ourselves up to a somewhat similar pattern to last year's (Minus the cooler, wetter Summer we had in '09).

I'm not certain that we can muster as much snow as last year, because we really were within the narrow bulls-eye for most of last Winter, which is rare. I do think that we can still experience somewhat frequent snowfalls though, and so long as it stays cool enough, we should be able to obtain substantially prolonged accumulation throughout the season.

What I wouldn't do for another White Christmas! :-)

I'm already stocking up on milk, bread and toilet paper I'm buying bottled water every time I go grocery shopping and getting out large amounts of cash to keep on hand.

Given the trends we've barely had snow the last several winters.

This year was an exception to the extreme - the snowiest winter ever (not coldest mind you) and the hottest summer ever (overall avg summer temp).

If I had to guess - I would say the trend will continue with above normal temperatures compounded with sudden intense bursts of precipitation (much like we've been experiencing for the past few years). Given that, we will likely be right on the edge (temperature-wise) of potentially major storms at least a few times this coming winter.

That's good preparation. You should buy up all the milk now.

I have also bee wondering about the forecast for snow this winter. I believe that if it was nothing like global warming last year, 2010-2011's winter should be a good one.

You want a prediction about the weather, you're asking the wrong Phil.

I'll give you a winter prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life.

Probably slightly above normal temps and below normal snowfall. We are in a La Nina patter this winter (we were in an El Nino pattern last winter, thus all the big snows).

I think we are going to have a lot of big swings though. One week of bitter cold, followed by some really warm periods, then back to cold.

Don't listen to Topper, he's a little twit. An total ingrate. Whatever I say, he says. If I'm right, he takes the credit. When I'm wrong (which is 90% of the time), he pretends he was right, just like I do. He's a pompous incompetent fool. But gets paid pretty well, considering.
