Boating license suggestions?

As of July 2010, all boat and jet-ski operators under 35 yeaers old have to take a boater safety course and get a license. I saw a bunch online, including some suggested by VA department of game and indland fisheries.

But I'd like to ask YOU, Fairfax Undergound citizens, if you have any recommendation on the best. And are they all required to last 6 hours, even online?

as lon as it is NASBLA approved which the boat us free online course is you dont have to spend 6 hours online. I spent 70 bucks on a online course and found out later that the boat us online course was sufficient.

When you take the free test keep another browser open and copy and paste. Awnser pops up on yahoo awnsers every time! The test is 5 min long and I scratch my head as to why the F the boat us course is acceptable.

Thanks for the help (although at first I thought it said NAMBLA as well).

Looks like Boat Us is the way to go!

Second vote for the BoatUS course...yes, it can be 'cheated' without much effort, but most people just run through the questions and get on with it. It does, however, require some reading if you are honest. While there are some "common sense" questions that you can breeze through, you cannot do that with questions related to traffic, yielding, etc.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary offers courses at various locaitons around the area, some are taught on 3 or 4 evenings, a couple of hours each, sometimes all in one week sometimes spread over a few weeks. Also some are taught on a Saturday, all day, but it gets the job done, "once and done". I have no idea of the quality of a live class vs an online one though.

You can google Coast Guard Auxiliary then you have to search around their site but there is a list of classes available.

Is this is for all of VA? Or is this another BS Fairfax County law?

lots of online places to do it for around $25 - $30.

there is a phase in period, but eventually everyone will need it to operate any water vehicle that has a motor or is above a certain size.
