Used to drive it everyday, to and from work. It's Hunter Mill Rd. It's fun when it's not too busy, but beware of animals. I've obliterated a fox with my bumper and have seen countless dead deer on the side of the road.

can't say i've ever driven this road during rush hour, but on the off hours it is an extremely fun road to drive. it stretches from 123 to 606 near route 7, and if you like to drive for fun, i would highly recommend this road. ralph is right though, just look out for animals, and don't drive it your first time at night. also, vale road around there is fun, and on hunter mill you may just see the 2 FCPD dirtbike cops that patrol around there. pretty cool stuff. a good drive to say the least.

I also used to drive it most days to get to work. There's really no other good North-South route to get from the Oakton/Vienna area up to the Toll Road and beyond (Reston, Herndon, Dulles, etc.). You'd either have to go out 66 to the FX Pkwy or 28 or go up through Tyson's - and no one wants to do that.

There are some large gorgeous houses off there, especially near the Vale intersection.

I wouldn't do 50+ at nighttime though.

You shouldn't be doing 50+ down it at any time - too many blind bends and hill crests - especially the Sunrise - Lawyers section. The Crowell 3-way is also easy to miss coming from the 7 direction. Its also popular for marked and unmarked police or various flavors.

The traffic can back up unexpectedly at several points and you can end up rear-ending someone sooner than you think - there are a number of 70's communities off the road, so quite a few teen drivers

Also a popular section of the W&OD and the cross-county connector trail cross close to the Difficult Run - and there are one hell of a lot of deer, fox and raccoon

Slow down and enjoy it!

Personally, I'm a fan of Fox Mill Road ...

Oh, I don't do 50+. I was just posting to follow-up with the people who say it's a fun road to drive. Fun yes, but don't be stupid =)

Fox Mill "The Rollercoaster" beats Hunter Mill any day. My favorite is Stuart Mill in Reston, lots of great turns and wooded areas.

No doubt, that road is the worst in terms of deer in the Fall. I came upon three deer once, and fortunately they scattered in all the right directions (ie, Away from me).

Btw, I never understand people when they ask me or talk to me about a Route number around here, because I know the roads by their actual names.

Do you remember Stuart Rd. before they built the Ffx. Co. Pkwy?

As for a road that's still fun, try Springvale Road out to Georgetown Pike, then try Georgetown Pike east of downtown Great Falls. What a rush!
