Hit and run

Had one today. Someone was nice enough to leave me a message saying that they witnessed a tow truck hitting my car though and even left me the name of the company.

How usefull is filing a report with the police?

I am talking to the tow trucks management on monday when they will be in.

I think you should let the police do their job and handle it. Did the witness leave contact info so they can be grilled also?

But someone at my job said that they saw a tow truck from the company that is listed on the note that day.

I hope it was Henry's towing and you get a huge settlement.

There is no harm in filing a police report anyway, in fact your insurance company may require it if you are submitting a claim for the damage.

whether or not the witness can be located to prove who it was exactly, a lot of times it's enough by seeing the paint on the damaged car and matching it with the hitter. happened to a friend of mine and he proved who hit him by a paint match...it's worth a try

Too bad it wasn't today, as hit and run (or fail to report accident with unattended property) is on the list of the new "fines" in effect today: http://www.courts.state.va.us/publications/hb_3202.pdf

Scary stuff!

Very good point. But may I add that I would be very surprised and concerned if your insurance did not require a police report. File the police report immediately.

Okay went to meet with Henrys today and they told me that a driver admitted hitting my car. I just have to give them two autobody shop estimates.

So far so good.

unless you can find the truck with the matching damage and paint transfer, you are screwed. on the other hand, if you burn all their trucks and their building, that would be good enough retribution in my book. ^^

Tow truck companies like Henry's are fucking scum. It doesn't surprise me at all they'd do this. Don't expect to see one cent from them. I'd love to see justice acted out on them, and yes I mean in a violent way.
