I get pulled over about once a day for "suspicious behaviour". I don't think this is legal but it happens anyway. Does this happen to anyone else? If being 19 in a slightly beat up car smoking a cigarette is illegal then arrest me, but otherwise STOP PULLING ME OVER!

But you throw the "card" and its allllll good.

"suspicious behaviour" is a one-size-fits-all the cops use to see what's doing in your car. For the most part, you are defenseless against it, regardles of what you've been raised to believe the law is.

Now the stop itself, you can't do much about, unless you fie an actual harassment complaint. But if you do, the cops reason will be "you were driving suspiciously", "erratic braking or accelerating" whatever, he can bascially say what he wants and do what he wants. The dashcam isn't recording your every move until you're pulled over in front of him.

Now if you are charged with contraband in your car, ie drugs,weapons etc you may have an avenue in court to get it dismissed being the search is "the fruit of a poisoned tree" the tree being the illegal search. But even winning in court is losing and always a crap shoot, laws are made and enforced by humans and subject to human interpretation.


Welcome to America. Stay sober, don't carry and keep the muffler and tailpipe fixed. You can get away with a lot of shit but in many ways you are at their mercy.

I have short hair, I mostly commute to and from work, I don't do drugs, and my car is not tinted past the legal limit (its not even close, I think its like 75%) and I listen to music at a reasonable volume (my speakers are blown). What else;? Shut your F*#*ing face

I'm pretty good at spotting suspicious people, having been one myself for many years. Type of vehicle. driving habits (haphazedly or sometimes overly cautious),age, style of dress, number of male ocupants per car, head and neck if not eye movement. Not that I would be right every time, but I bet I could plcuk some shadies out of traffic pretty well.

AJ btw what kind of car are you driving? Does the harassment have to do with having your car checked out for safety issues?

An Officer I knew one time won some kind of an award for number of outstanding warrants he somehow found and pulled in. His secret? Two (or more) safety violations on the car - anything from a light out to a funky dent - but two or more safety violations routinely the driver or a passenger was wanted for something.

I believe there is somewhat of a harassment against teenagers and young adults in fairfax county and prince william county specifically. A few months ago my friend was driving down Ox Road right before Occoquan and he saw two cars behind him speeding towards him so he got over into the right lane and the next thing he knows, two prince william cops are pulling him over(apparently for making a 'risky lane change' which was only forced by them by them because they were excessively speeding and there was no one in the other lane anyway) . He's not even 18 yet, and it was around 11:40 PM, so he was worried about getting home before curfew. First the believe that he has been drinking (he had not) and made him do a sobriety test, which he of course passed. Then they suspected that he had drugs in his car (he doesn't do drugs at all) And searched his car (which he only obliged to so that he would hopefully get home before curfew) When he brought up the subject of him being late for curfew, the cops didn't even know there was a state curfew of 12 PM.

Personally i am more concerned with the amount of speeding fairfax and prince william cops do, and often encounter it.

I am pulled over by the cops every day. It infuriates me. Apparently, i resemble shaquile o'neal and am routinely asked how long my dick is.

Yeah, it's normal to get pulled over and shaken down more often by cops when you're a teen, but I can't imagine even being pulled over once a week. You're doing something wrong.

take a good look at who is on the road in fairfax county. its you and soccer moms. who do you think has more weed? what else are the cops around here supposed to do with their day? you can only direct so much traffic before you get bored.

I highly doubt you get pulled over EVERY day...

But anytime you are stopped by the police you should always ask them why they pulled you over. Do they have a 'reasonable suspicion' that you committed or are committing a crime?

Never consent to a search of yourself, your belongings or your car. The police can pat down the exterior of your clothing to feel for weapons, but this does not mean you have to show them what's in your pockets voluntarily.

Keep in mind that you should never admit to anything no matter what lies they tell you.

If you are not being arrested and a stop is taking an unusual amount of time it doesnt hurt to ask why and if there is nothing more, ask if you can leave. And if they say no ask why.

I'm sure every youth pulled over by the cops are all sweet innocent young church go'ers. Here a little trick you can use put a baby seat in the back of the car they never pull over parents. Try driving a mini van. Just don't look like a teen looking for trouble. I also had lots of trouble with fx city police when i turned 25 it stopped.

Lots of age profiling conducted by FFX popo. If you don't look like their them, they will find any and every reason to stop you. I have been stopped various times for fabricated reasons plastic tag cover, (un)tinted windows, sports writing on windows (Go Rams!). Meanwhile, soccer moms with the same car characteristics whiz by while I am stopped and harassed on the side of the road. This is unfair and biased treatment by the FFX popo.
