first pre season game next weekend.

I gotta pull for them at least a couple more years.

We still have ownership problems but maybe we can overcome.

13-3? WTF would give you any inclination that this team is capable of a 13-3 record? 10-6? Maybe. 9-7? Sure. 13-3? NFW!

Dude. They lost to Detroit last year. They'll be lucky to win 6 games this year in the regular season.

I have faith.

13-3

We will also beat Dallas both at home and away.
The only Redskins losses this season will be to the:

The Colts in Week 6
The Eagles in Week 9
and The Giants in Week 16 because the Skins will be playing only third string players relaxing starters for the playoffs

The Skins have a new team this year. Plus any team can win on any given Sunday. The Skins rock! Best rocker is Chris Cooley!

...speaking of Chris Cooley, did you hear about what happened to him in '04 when he went to the bank to deposit his mil+$ check... lmao.

We'll come back to this topic later in the season when the skins are getting destroyed yet again.

McNabb will be injured immediately.
Grossman will go back to his "fuck it, I'm throwing it downfield" mentality
No one will catch it because the starting receivers are: Santana Moss (too short, slow, and has bad attitude) and Joey Galloway (who's 38 and has only caught 20 passes in the last 2 years)

Look at the team's personnel! The o-line, secondary and receivers are all suspect. The RBs are all old. The only thing the team has going for it are the LBs, TEs and McNabb. That's not enough to make the playoffs.

I'll say the Redskins go maybe 7-9 or 8-8. The o-line (barring injury) will be better. The secondary is solid. WR position is weak sauce. McNabb will not play all 16 games and I have little to no faith in Rex Grossman.

That said, I think that the Eagles are rebuilding with Kolb (who will make mistakes) and the Giants are not what they use to be. As much as I hate to say it, Dallas will probably win the division. :-(

I don't know what to make of this team yet. I like the direction their going, but I think they're trying to go too fast. When you go too fast, you could hit a tree and come to a screeching halt.

I would be shocked if McNabb plays all 16 and even more shocked if Rex comes in and plays well.

Saturday morning we will all have a slightly better take on things, but for now I'm going with 9-7

The secondary couldn't cover shit last year. Are they really going to be any better this year?

Yep. It's ridiculous they are relying on a converted slot receiver and a geriatric for their #1 and #2 receivers.

Yes. Plus is Grossman known as a West Coast offense guy? Seems like he is more of a traditional long bomb passer.

I agree that the verdict is out on the Eagles and Giants. That, and the NFC is much weaker than the AFC. Those factors will contribute more to the Skins potential success than anything else. But I do think 7-9 is realistic.

First of all the oline has two new players. A starting left tackle can make a huge difference in a line performance. Then they got Campbell from New Orleans who was a probowler a year ago to play right tackle. Compared to last years tackles I'd say the oline has gone through a tremendous improvement. Throw in Shanahans zone blocking and I would go as far to say we will have one of the better olines in the nfl.

Receiver wise, I'm not going to say they're in good shape, but Thomas showed glimpses of big play ability last year and Kelly has underperformed but he still gives me the impression he's going to start getting it soon. They also have two probowl caliber tight ends, and can run them together in sets. An experienced qb like McNabb will make everyone better.

I love the running backs too, they have looked great at training camp all playing with a chip on their shoulder. They're not as good as 3 years ago but I think Portis and Johnson will make a great combination attack.

I'm guilty of always being an optimist with the Skins, but I haven't had this much optimism in atleast a decade. Big things will happen for the Skins and I think they're going to suprise a lot of people starting this year.

Anything is possible. But it seems that no matter who goes into Landover, they end up with the same results. Al Saunders comes in with his "Greatest Show on Turf" playbook, and nothing happens. Steve Spurrier brings in the "Fun and Gun," and nothing happens.

Shanahan may have a great scheme, but his greatest success occurred when he had Hall of Fame caliber players. I don't see that personnel on this team.

True, but they weren't HOF players until they played for his teams.
I think we can throw away everything that's happened in the last 4 years. During that time, nothing really changed. Defense was the same old stagnant 4-3 and the offense was completely predictable and the QB's weren't allowed to audible. They also weren't capable of throwing a deep ball and the mouth-breathing Jason Campbell never knew what he was doing and was indecisive.

One thing I'm sure of, the Skins will NEVER reach the pathetic low level of last year. I had NEVER missed a single play of a Redskin game in my life before last season. I was embarrassed to be a Skins fan and I actually turned off the game in disgust more than a few times.

I just can't imagine things not improving. The coke head Vinny Cerato and lame duck Jim Zorn are long gone and Snyder has agreed to let the pros handle the team (for now). It'll take a few years to get the best players in here, but I'm willing to be patient, as long as they're going in the right direction.

Elway wasn't a Hall of Famer until he played for Shanahan? John Lynch? Champ Bailey? Shannon Sharpe? Look at the record books. These guys were either HOF caliber or well on their way prior to Shanny being head coach in Denver.

The Skins have consistently had one of the top-rated defenses in the league. I'm not sure that will be the case with the 3-4 given the personnel they have. They are talking about using Landry more in blitz packages. The problem is who the hell do they have in the secondary who can cover besides Hall? It was so bad last year they resorted to using Smoot as a free safety.

Gibbs and Spurrier had seasons that were almost as bad. Remember when Marty lost the first five games?

Here's the deal. Snyder won't wait a few years. He'll start firing people at the end of this season if they don't make the playoffs. Just watch.

First, my bad on the o-line man's name it's Brown not Campbell.

As for Spurrier and Al Saunders, neither had head coaching success in the NFL. Spurrier flat out is a college coach, not an NFL one. Although having Patrick Ramsey as your starting qb, I sympathize. With Shanahan he's been succesful just about every season he's coached. Then you have the most talented qb the Redskins have had in 10-15 years and it makes it interesting. Although Shanahan is not coming in with an explosive offense so I don't understand the comparisons. His son ran a good system in Houston, but Shanahan is more here for leadership.

There's no way Snyder will start firing staff after this year. After last season he has learned to let it take its course. A proven GM and coach, he realizes this group has to get it done and has been hands off. Bruce Allen and Shanahan won't put up with too much shit. If they leave there are plenty of jobs for them remaining. Get excited, this season is going to be fun!

Snyder can't help himself. He tried it with Marty and pulled the rug out from under him. He tried it with Gibbs and started taking authority away from him. Snyder can't help himself. He is the proverbial scorpion on the back of the frog. It's in his nature.

If Shanahan (or any decent coach) had been coaching the Redskins last year, their record would have been 7-9 just based on the 3 games that were lost because of BAD COACHING,,,,,those games were the Saints, Cowboys and Detroit,,those games were lost by terrible decisions at key points in the games,,,the definition of "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory"

I think its reasonable to believe the Redskins will win 7 to 9 games this year

Among other things, Shanahan doesn't have the O-line he needs. No offense relies on skilled linemen more than his. That cross & cut blocking takes time to learn.

The owner not withstanding, the thing about the Skins that irritates me the most are the fans. 13-3? Really? Really? No. A very small handful of teams MAY have that record. And Washington won't be one of them.

8-8.

I wish there could be a better prognosis, but not this year. But I disagree with WTL, Snyder has learned a lesson and will be hands off this year.

if your gona make a guesstimate try and be somthing out of the norm '8 and 8'
you can say that every year and be off a few and still say you were right. so stfu

im going with 10-6 . you cant base this years performance off of last year. and you are not a skins fan so it doesnt really matter what you think son

yeeboi,

Dallas - L (yeeboi waits til next week)
Houston - L (yeeboi is convinced it was a fluke)
Rams - W (yeeboi thinks the Skins are going to the Super Bowl)
Philly - L (yeeboi believes McNabb purposely lost the game, demands he sits)
Packers - L (yeeboi claims it was the weather)
Indy - L (yeeboi spreads a rumor that Manning is gay and feels better about himself)
Chicago - W (yeeboi drunkenly assures FFU the Skins are going all the way)
Lions - W (yeeboi sees a pattern! two in a row!)
Philly - L (fuckin McNabb, god, yeeboi hates him)
TN - L (yeeboi senses FFU predictions about a poor o-line may be true)
Vikes - W (no Favre, yeeboi thanks bad ankles)
NYG - W (yeeboi thinks this Manning is gay, may be right)
Tampa - W (yeeboi was suprised to find out Tampa still has a team)
Dallas - L (yeeboi silently weeps into his Natural Light)
Jags - W (yeeboi is delighted that the Skins are still mathematically alive)
NYG - W (yeeboi is proven correct that this Manning is gay, and the Skins finished on a streak, so he'll blindly support his team next year)

8-8, son. You exemplify the general stupidity of most Skins fans; no idea of the game, wildly throwing darts looking for someone to blame, etc.

If Snyder leaves Shanahan alone for two years, your 10-6 will happen (and more eventually), not this year though. But thanks for your input.

Here's the deal on Shanny's offense. If he can get the zone blocking in place for the running game and the short passing game going, it could potentially open up Moss and Galloway for long passes. Moss isn't as fast as he used to be, but he is quick in terms of getting separation in a route. It seems like most of Moss's big plays come out of running post routes. If Shanny's offense can force the opposing teams defense to creep up, resulting in more cover 2, it could free Moss and Galloway up. I think the big question is who is going to be McNabb's Westbrook? He needs Portis or Johnson to be able to catch.

I was listening to Mike and Mike yesterday. Mark Schlereth was cohosting in Golic's absense.

"Stink" told a story about when he was playing with the Skins. They were getting ready for the first regular season game. On Friday before the game, he got a message that after practice he was to go to the General Manager's office. So he goes up there and they have a new contract for him to sign, with a Pay Cut!. The GM, I don't know who it was at that time, I think Casserly was gone but not sure, told him that if he didn't sign it he would be cut after the game on Sunday!!!!! He said that was not all that unusual and the the public had no idea of what goes on in the business end of the NFL. So, he signs it.

So, no wonder so many of these guys renegotiate contracts. And another reason, I'm not all the pumped about the Skins or any other NFL team. And big time college football ain't all that different.

First pre-season game is in the books,,,,

Time for a top 10 list,,,,

Top 10 things we may have learned from this game,,,

10) There are guys on this team we never heard of that can make plays

9) There are guys on this team we have heard of that can't

8) Portis and Johnson may not be the best backs on this team

7) This offensive line at full strengh may not be a bunch of cupcakes after all

6) Defense still needs to get use to the new system,,,but looked pretty good

5) Haynesworth needs to play on 1st team from now on

4) Haynesworth is a fuckin beast now! All is forgiven!

3) Kyle Shanahan knows how to call an offensive gameplan

2) Grossman may actually be a solid #2 QB

1) Donovan is healthy, and can clearly lead a football team to some victories

You Redskins fans are so cute, what with your unfailing optimism every year. We both have something in common in that we have douchebag owners, but at least the Cowboys douchebag owner leads while Snyder follows Jerry's example of a huge ass screen.

Admittedly, the Redskins will fare better this year with McNabb and Shanahan. But Cowboys will still win the division and possibly be the first team to play in its own stadium in the Super Bowl.

Anyway, good luck to you Skins fans. I sincerely hope you have a good season and that the opener against the Cowboys turns into an ESPN instant classic.

Now let the flaming commence.

Let's see,,,Bills just pounded the Colts,,,

The Redskins pounded the Bills,,,

The Colts were in the Superbowl last year,,,

Obviously that means,,,

Redskins goin' to the big show!

Call Vegas,,,get in early for the best odds

But Jim zorn is still getting paid over $2 million by the redskins. He's laughing all the way to the bank. And seriously even though he is not head coach material, do you think Shanahan or anyone else with credibility would take the job with Vinnie C there?

All that is true,,but it doesn't mean he should be in charge of creating gameplans or calling plays,,

Is there anyone on the planet that thinks Zorn is ever going to be an NFL head coach again

Even Jim Zorns mother wouldn't hire him to coach her team,,,

Zorn will be lucky if he ever makes OC. That last debacle with Hunter the Punter is infamous.

Only a few hours until the Washington / Baltimore game,,,,time to warm up the thread,,,,

For a regional rivalry game theres just not enough hate,,,

Yeah, Washingtonians hate Baltimorons and visa-versa,,but there has never been any fire in the rivalry,,,

Its probably because they play in different conferences, but Colts v Redskins back in the day was a way better rivalry,,,Bert Jones used to piss Redskins fans off

Maybe its because the Ravens are a stolen football team from Cleveland and will not get any real respect as a real Baltimore team for another twenty years or so,,,

13-3?! Can you score me some of whatever you're on? It sounds like it's some good shit.

Well,,that first drive was pretty good,,,some clutch 3rd down conversions and a big play to get in the red zone,,,

Need to establish the run on the next series,,,

Eh. Redskins losing 13-3. More fun to watch Steelers/Giants on the NFL network, at least if you're a Steelers fan.

umm, Russ, you need to get off this board and go focus on Leinart and the Cards O line.

I disagree with the fans that think this outing was pathetic,,,it wasn't great but,,,,

The first half is what counts and that was a 10-3 ballgame, with a fake punt that I dont think the ravens would have gone for in regular season

What was pathetic was Larry Johnson,,,if Willie Parker can hold onto the ball, maybe throw a block and gain , oh I dont know, 20 yards,,,LJ is going to be on his way outta town

Also, we really cant judge the defense until head-case Haynesworth gets in the lineup with the starters,,, I think he would have made a difference in the first half

I can't believe this loss to the Ravens, especially after the great game last week against Buffalo. This is typical modern Redskin garbage.

The Final was 23-3. It's depressing.

There were some positives,,,McNabb converted three third downs in one drive,,,
Thats more than Campbell completed all last year

Was there last weekend and the odds were for 8 wins (not enough for the playoffs) but I was tempted to take the bet.

I still say they'll be 8-8. no really.

I am tempted to get a Jason Campbell jersey since it has my 2nd team on it (the Raiders)...but I don't want to be booed out the stadium lol!

I am gonna get to a game this year...I tell myself that every year then end up working OT at work or something :(

Speculation is now that both Kelly and Thomas may be gone after the pre-season. I like this Anthony Armstrong guy. He's had to fight his way into the league. He has an appreciation of what it's like to be outside the NFL looking in. I'd rather see a guy like that on the team than Kelly or Thomas, at this point. If they get cut, both will end up on some other NFL teams. Armstrong has the Skins or the abyss. I think that's why he plays with such heart.

Kelly reinjured his hammy again today. Guy is made of glass. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
