Driver had been trying to pass slow-moving van

5 cheerleaders killed in fiery crash

Goodman, who was driving the SUV, had been trying for a few minutes to pass a van that was going only about 40 mph, Koneski said. "When Bailey started passing, it looked like the van was speeding up because she was next to the van for a really long time," she said.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation, but Povero said no witnesses had given any indication the van sped up "to avoid being passed."

"We'll certainly take this into consideration and follow this up," he said. The van driver was interviewed, and no one was ticketed, police said.

Autopsies were being conducted, including routine tests for the presence of drugs or alcohol, Povero said.

Reading this reminded me of similar pieces of shit driving on Loudon County parkway at 40 mph on a 55 mph zone. Such pieces of shit need to be taken down like the bithces that they are.

If anyone on this forum is this exact piece of shit I am talking about, then please kill yourself :D

If the person in the above vehicle atually started speeding up while she was trying to pass, he should face criminal charges.

rant over..

i think it's 15 or 20 under is reckless. too bad they were hot.

oh... fyi, if you are going to pass someone illegally, slow down, get some space and then floor it so that you are going much faster than the slow person you are passing and thus minimizing the amount of time you are on the wrong side of the road.

Yeah, and if the slowpoke speeds up...ABORT! Hit the brakes and drop back in behind 'em....especially if a 18-wheeler is coming the other way!

Remember, dear FU'ers....death PERMANENTLY fouls up your busy schedules!

normally i dont blame accidents on just being a teenager/inexperience. but in this case, not ahveing a teenage mind (want to go fast) would have been a plus. They probably would have decided to slow down and get back in behind.

Reminds me of the school bus drivers. They take their time loading the kids. Then when they have to merge back into traffic they leave the flashers on so no one can pass. They drive 50 feet and do it all over again and again.

I have seen huge backups and the cause was one school bus pulling this trick. the least they could do is turn off the flashers and let a few cars get by.
And yes I am in a hurry and I am that important.

The problem there is the kids have to be seated before they can take off...and they screw around. The driver IS, I assure you, yelling at 'em to hurry up.

The "trick" you mention is unfortuneatly necessary on some roads...would YOU ever let a school (or Metro) bus out otherwise? I didn't think so.

About the location of the stops ("50 feet" apart)...stop locations are established by the school system...the driver must NOT deviate from them.

Go ahead man, keep passin' them damn buses....the new civil penalty for doing so shouldn't be any sweat for important folks!

I have seen trucks pull over on steep inclines when traffic is backed up behind them, why cant the bus drivers do the same. Maybe more people would let the buses merge back in if they didnt keep the flashers on all day long.

If faced with a twenty minute delay behind the bus with no hopes of passing anywhere of course drivers arent going to let them back in. And I do let the Metro buses back in many times. And I dont pass the buses when the lights are on.

Some of the more courteous school bus drivers do pull over and let cars behind them pass.

Or at least they did 20 years ago when I was still in school.

not a chance that will happen anymore. ive been behind a LOT of sloooooooow buses and none of them had any intention of letting people pass.
