Bow Practice, Public Lands

I'm looking for a place to practice with a compound bow that isn't far from home.
Is it legal to practice archery at a school field? (not during school hours obviously)

The Fairfax County Code states:

Section 6-4-1. Shooting of bows.
It shall be unlawful for any person to shoot an arrow from a bow in a manner that can be reasonably expected to result in the impact of the arrow upon the property of another without permission from the owner, fee holder or tenant of the property on which the arrow is expected to impact. For the purposes of this section, "bow" includes all compound bows, crossbows, longbows and recurve bows having a peak draw weight of ten pounds or more. The term "bow" does not include bows which have a peak draw of less than ten pounds or which are designed or intended to be used principally as toys. The term "arrow" means a shaft-like projectile intended to be shot from a bow.
(24-95-6.)

I believe this means you have to get permission from the school to do it. I have no clue whether that means principal, school board, or superintendent.

I Talked with Community Use of Facilities, Fairfax County Public Schools.

Woman was nice and said she was going to look into it. I'll keep everyone posted.

No way in hell they will give you permission. They are bureaucrats.

As for permission, it's public property. Why would you need permission?

The safest bet is to find a private property owner who will allow you to use his or her land. Too bad there aren't many large tracts of land around here anymore. But you might be able to find someone who will let you do it.

DistanceRunner,

I have a nice wooded deck overlooking a "common area". You can shoot from my deck as long as you take out every mexican you see.
