Malibu Grill vs. Texas de Brazil
Posted by: TomMadison ()
Date: August 04, 2010 11:49AM

I am taking the groomsmen from my daughter's wedding to lunch on Friday and thought that it would be fun and manly to go to either of these since everyone is a hardcore carnivore from the Midwest.

I cannot get through to Texas de Brazil until they open later for dinner, but assume that they have lunch pricing that is less than the $45 they charge for dinner. Malibu Grill has lunch for $11.99, but I am afraid that it really not going to be very good.

Has anyone eaten at either or both of these lately? Which do you prefer?

Went to Malibu Grill a few years ago. It was terrible. Heard Texas de Brazil was much better.

Sorry, I've never been to either, but plan to sometime.

I haven't been to Malibu in a few years (the one in Bailey's), but I always thought their side dishes and salads really sucked. Sure, you're there for the meat, but it's nice to be a able to munch on a few other things too. It's not bad, I just wouldn't recommend the place unless you're only interested in eating as much meat as you possibly can in one sitting.

Never been to Texas de Brazil though.

its meat, meat and more meat. There is a salad bar, but thats there to satiate the women in the parties that dont want to gorge themselves with too much food.

We went out with a couple clients to Fogo de Chao a week or two ago. Damned good meat. You'll be shitting bricks for about 3 days though....

For a chain restaurant, Texas de Brazil is spectacular.

The consensus seems to be that Malibu Grill is mediocre at best and not really worth the $25/dinner or $12/lunch price. Texas de Brazil is around $45 for dinner and my hope is that it is half that for lunch which would be reasonable.

Or for people whose idea of a good meal isn't taking a hundred mouthfuls of meat without a single bite from the other food groups. I just think that's bizarre. Even 80 meat / 20 grain or vegetable would be acceptable to me. But those shitty side dishes at Malibu make it a lousy meal, in a cuisine I'm not particularly fond of anyway, IMO.

I like going in there for drinks, they bring out free snacks, mixed nuts and these little balls of dough with meat baked into them. They have good appetizers too. It's a nice joint, I've just never eaten a meal there.

Malibu is garbage. Texas de Brazil is pretty good. TdB and Chima are the same price, but the quality of the food is better at TdB.

Fogo de Chao is about the same price as well, and the atmosphere is much nicer if you're willing to go into DC.

I don't go to them for the salad bar. In fact, I don't go there at all anymore cuz I think it's retarded to sit there and eat nothing but meat.

Take them to Crystal City Restaurant. They have a decent steak, well priced and the guys will thank you later. Why bother with some stiff in a long apron telling you about todays specials when you can see some nice T & A.

What your daughter doesnt know wont hurt her.

Hands down Texas de Brazil is way better. Malibu Grill has even changed to part asian food and part Brazillian steak house. It's all asian's that worked there, so it seemed predominately asian food. My husband and I went to Malibu back in February and refused to even stay. It looked dirty, and it was confusing. I wouldn't trust the food there at all. It's almost not even fair to compare the two because of how bad Malibu is. If you were taking me out to a lunch and took me to Malibu Grill, I would be angry with you. Don't risk food poisoning your daughter's wedding party. Stick with Texas De Brazil. The atmosphere is elegant with a sort of cigar / wine lounge feel. Perfect for a groomsmen's lunch. You can actually even order cigars there.

Malibu Grill in fairlakes *USED* to be good. Now it is overpriced and crap. I wouldn't eat there if it was more reasonably priced (say $4 a person), the food has gotten *that* bad.

Texas De Brazil (fair oaks mall) has pretty good food, but it's expensive. They have a decent salad bar, if you like cheeses, pate (sp?), and the like. The meats are good (I seem to recall they had leg of lamb). Overall though the price seems outrageous.

There is really no comparison between Malibu and TdB.
You should take her to TdB -- much much better in every way.

Texas De Brazil any day. Malibu sucks big time. The cuts of meat are pretty inferior and they serve more sausages than regular cuts like Filet Mignon or Beef Ribs etc. On the other hand Texas De Brazil is twice the cost. So take your pick.

It's overpriced because it's crap food.

And no, I'm not a professor. If you don't get the reference, that's your issue.

for whatever the inside info is worth. Malibu grill was bought by the annandale Koreans. THey had a fire at the Falls church location and I was taking pictures etc.
The local restoration company to the Falls church area could not do anything because this Koreans went crazy over their fire. They brought their own friends and relatives to do the work. I later found out from the siding guy that they just bought it 2 or 3 years back. They are there just to collect their investment. They have no idea about the concept of churasqueria nor food.
Is just like a dry cleaner. They buy it and exploit it.
I used to go there back in the days. I would stay away from Mr Kim establishment.

Holy shit, DO NOT go to Malibu Grill in Fair Lakes.

I went there once, about 2 years ago, and it was fucking horrible!

Texas De Brazil on the other hand...I've been there numerous times and it is HEAVEN. HEAVEN ON EARTH.

Even if you're a pussy vegetarian ;)......you'll enjoy the salad bar and other stuff they have to offer.

Their garlic mashed potatos will make you cream your pants.

Malibu grill was a real place when it opened. Now, if you notice, the foreign language signs. They are attracting a different population. Not the yuppie crowd who knows good food. If you want quantity this is the place. If you want quantity and quality for a price. Go elsewhere.
