Car fire at Leesburg Pike in Tysons Corner/Vienna

Traffic came to a grinding halt at Leesburg Pike NW-bound all the way to I-495 (near the Best Buy) starting at 8:30pm last night (Monday) due to a big car fire. In case you're interested, I posted a couple pics and a 5-second video (QuickTime format only) of the fire at http://tinyurl.com/22wolp

I couldn't tell because of all the flames, but I was also guessing a late model Benz. That'll be a huge insurance claim!

How could a loss of oil pressure cause a car fire?

I'm surprised that carbecues don't happen more often.....modern fuel injection systems operate at pretty high pressures. All you need is a pinhole leak in a fuel line or connection spraying gas on a hot manifold....POOF!

Dude where's my car?
Where you get your car man? Yo your ride is hot HOT HOT!!! On Fire!

Maybe if the driver hadn't decided to clean off that bird poop, stuck on his windshield, with gas he might not be in this situation.

man this is a law suit in the making. Driver has a better chance then pants guy.

Didn't the Best Buy move farther down near the 236 exit?

without being oiled, the engine seizes and cracks the block. that gets rather hot on the way. heat + oil = carbecue

This is the Best Buy at the 8000 block Leesburg Pike right before 495 and next to the Chili's restaurant. Actually, the car was more in front of Chili's parking lot than Best Buy. I'm not sure where 236 intersects, but maybe you're referring to the Baileys Crossroads/Falls Church Best Buy on 5799 Leesburg Pike. And oh, earlier I said "NW-bound" traffic was blocked, but I think it was actually SW-bound. The traffic backup affected the intersection of Gallows/International Rd. and Leesburg Pike, and other intersections north of that. They closed two of three lanes and the access road where the car burned.

Pabs is right, get with the times. That Best Buy closed and one opened about a mile west.

FWIW, the old Best Buy location near Chili's is now a Filene's Basement.
